Indica Vista (Sedan edition) vs Ford Figo TDCI (Both Diesel)

      Hello Friends

Need your opinions on these two options. We are a family of four. My youngest daughter will be 2 soon. My normal monthly run is about 1000 - 1500kms and I plan to do a couple of 2k+ trips every year.

      The areas of comparison are

      Price
      Mileage
      Rear Leg Room
      Boot Space
      After Sales Service (ASS)

I have seen the Vista and read very good things about the Figo. The Vista probably outscores the Figo on all points except the last one. I own an Indica currently so know how pathetic their ASS can be. Is it just that the grass seems greener at the other end. Is the Ford Service any better?

Ate you willing to let go of all the comforts just for better ASS?

You can't beat a Vista for comfort, space and a decent engine.

Where the Figo scores is, handling, steering feedback, braking, fresh design.

Till now, I have absolutely no issues with FordASS. I found them polite and understanding. They have good and patient ears. They always, listened and tried to explain the things, even for 20-30 minutes, though I had to ask and go at a time convenient to them. They never talk rude off my doubts/complaints. I found them working honestly on my complaints. This is all my experience till date and about the service center here in Pune, Planet Ford. They faultered on "making a call for camps, etc" only, for couple of times

I think you are the best judge for this question. Since you already have experience with them, you should make the call.

Ford ASS is not as bad as TASS, but not as good as MASS. If i were you, with similar requirements, ill forget ass and pick up the vista anyday.

Unless the design is as bad as the Ritz, I am ok On a serious note,I am ok with the design on both but the other points you mention - Is the Vista far behind on those ?

IMO, it depends on what you expect from a car, how you drive etc. If you are a spirited driver who takes corners at good speeds , vista is not the car for you. But, if you are a sedate driver vista is not at all a bad handler.

Vista is not really a great handler. Tata probably makes the worst steerings, but where it does score is space and comfort. So eventually all boils down to your needs. If you are a sedate driver, you'll find the Vista just awesome for your needs. If your someone who likes to have some fun, then Figo is the car.

Thank you for putting it in plain English for me I am a sedate driver by all definitions. Looks like I might remain a Tata owner

Since I own a Vista I will provide my feedback on Vista.

      Pro's
      • Quite Spacious with good legroom - can easily accomodate 5 adults
      • MJD engine - Great for highway ease
      • Soft Suspension provides good comfort on bad roads
      • VFM 'product' - the top end variant has loads of features at a VFM pricing.

      Con's
      • T.A.S.S - You already know about it. Their servicing will need to improve quite a bit. But the good news is that you won't face niggles that you might have faced in your previous generation Indica or Indica V2.
      • I think the suspension components wear & tear much quicker because of their soft nature. You will need to slow down on bad roads and cannot go at good pace on bad roads as otherwise the suspension might take a hit (Experts please correct me if this is incorrect. This is my understanding of the disadvantage of soft suspension over hard suspension).
      • You cannot do cornering at 120K etc because of the tall nature of the vehicle. You will need to slow down on corners.
      • Small boot size compared to Figo.
      • Significant turbo lag and that may not be convenient for city driving.
      • You cannot keep anything on the dashboard because of the central console.

In my view if you are familiar with T.A.S.S and okay to deal with them then go ahead and buy the Vista. I think it's much more VFM compared to Figo(my personal view) and it will not have the niggles that earlier generations Indica/Indica V2 faced and you will need to visit the service station only for the regular service.

I would suggest that you do a TD and go for the car that appeals to you. Also consider the following cars as well.

      Suzuki Swift
Suzuki Swift DZire CS (If you can extend the budget and okay with the looks)
      Toyoto Liva
      TATA Indica Vista Quadrajet (2009) | Suzuki GS 150R (2010) | TVS Wego (2011) | TVS Victor GL (2004) - SOLD
