      Lightbulb Driven- Ford Figo

Well! Managed to get my hands on a spanking new Ford Figo today. It was a lime green coloured diesel, in 'Titanium' spec, which i guess is the top end model. Since it was night, i have no pix, but i guess most of you guys already know what it looks like.

      LOOKS:
The looks are unmistakably ford. It looks like a cross between the Fiesta and the fusion. It is not good looking by any chance, but does not look terrible either. The Car has a certain muscular look from some angles, especially the rear three quarter view. It looks quite ugly in pix, but is better off in real life. (or it could be due to the lack of proper lighting! )

The car i drove, came with smart alloy wheels, which suited the car well. But the car could benefit from bigger wheels though.

      INTERIORS:
I opened the door and was treated to a rude shock. The dashboard was finished in a Ghastly red shade, which already looked faded. It looked TERRIBLE to say the least. Especially, with the lime green exterior shade. What were the designers smoking when they came up with such a colour scheme?? Hope its optional!

The interior plastic seemed to be of average quality, but certain bits like the door handles felt cheap.

The seats felt good initially, but after some hard driving, i felt a little more support was needed at places. The seat fabric was black with some red thrown in, and looked good. The quality was good too.

The center console is a simple design, with a brushed aluminum finish around it. There is an inbuilt stereo, which sounded average, but looked completely Chinese.

The lighting scheme for the interior is red, and is a deeper shade than the i20.

      EQUIPMENT
      :
The 'Titanium' spec comes decently loaded, with AC, PS, PW,Alloys,Rear wiper, defogger, CD player etc. The car had a Tacho, and a Distance to empty display. The Headlamp/ Wiper operation is very confusing, with half the controls on a rotary knob, and the rest on a stalk. I got confused and left the rear wiper on most of the time, even though my fiesta has a somewht similar arrangement.

      ENGINE:
The car comes with the 1.4L Duratorq diesel from the fiesta, and its a proven unit. The figo is lighter, so the performance is definitely better than the Fiesta. There is no turbo lag at all, and the car drives like a petrol. It revs quite freely initially, but higher up in the rev range, usable power is less. The engine felt quite refined, and there were no vibrations or roughness of any sort in the cabin. FE will also be very good, especially since the fiesta is quite fuel efficient too.

      TRANSMISSION
      :
The gearbox is quite good, and shifts felt easy, and slotted well. The gears were well spaced out, unlike the punto which is dead in the first 2 gears. The clutch action is good too.

      HANDLING & SUSPENSION:
The car was not tested on very rough roads, but on some moderately bad patches, it held on very well. There was a constant rattle coming from the rear area, but i think a proper PDI will take care of it.

The handling is quite good, and the steering feels well weighted, and it is very confidence inspiring to drive.

      SUM UP:
From my brief test drive, i was quite impresses, and so were the others who drove it. I feel that if priced well, it could be a serious threat to the swift and the punto, since it does most things better than these two hatches.!

      Thats an excellent review JayD.

Red interiors? Sounds ghastly. Was it JK by any chance who was given the design lead ?

+1 to that. red interiors !!??

I read somewhere that the fusion has been withdrawn from the market. If that is true, then Ford is going balls out in marketing this car. So, I presume they'll do a good job of keeping prices on check.

      Good report JayD

      Nice review Jay.

The red interiors is an option and there is a Black alternative for it. I doubt if anyone would go for the red one. From where did you get the test drive?

How was the Petrol engine? On paper it looks underpowered compared to competition, but generally ford engines have good driveability.

I checked the Figo at Lathangi here in Blore. It looks good...not too sporty...not too bad...I liked it. The salesman didnt know much about the car, he was busy explaining the 6 speed wipers and bluetooth. When I asked him about intercooler and he said therez an intercooler...I doubt? since its a fiesta engine (diesel). The boot is big compared to Swift but the footwell was cramped like the Punto. Just waiting for the test drive. The salesman told me test drive starts from the 9th and the price will be 6.0L on the road for the titanium in Blore. Lets see...fingers crossed

Not really, the car felt like an NA car actually. But it was definitely not underpowered. The turbo kick is just very linear.

No clue about the petrol krish, i got only the diesel to test. But from my fiesta experience, i guess it will be one which has good low and mid range.

Actually, one of my friends managed to lay his hands on a test figo for quite some time. Hence the TD!
