Ok why the Indigo in particular? Was it some kind of a paid joint event?

Am a little curious... Guess it was not some kind of independent testing

Because people of scared of TATA service. And their cars are very good as long as they dont develop major problems. If they do, then god help you.
And one also need to learn to live with minor irritants with indica's. If one can adjust then indica is a no nonsense car.
Practice does not make something perfect.
      Practice makes it permanent.

Recently i saw a survey . Nirma is the most preferred washing powder in india.
The only people who really have a problem with FIAT are the ones who never owned it.

and on the 16th day, the poor indigo was honorably retired from service

It's not the short term reliablity that people are apprehensive about it. Am yet to get a long term report from a DiCOR/eCS/CR4 owner without any major hiccups. and 14K in 15 days is not a big deal. my friends have done a similar trip in a similar timeframe in a bolero. Heck, we drove from kanyakumari to bhutan (8K Kms) and back in 9 days in a sonalika rhino of all things, probably would have done it in 8 days if it hadnt been for pathetic WB roads. And HVK's scorpio would positively be the energizer bunny of the lot.

Often people abuse Tata cars, even if bought new or pre-owned, they try their hardest hands and most of them prefer to get their costly Tata cars by the wayside mechanics. Tata has improved its cars and the technology involved, its not that poor as some people wait to criticize. I have Tata cars, always prefer Tata cars because of the refinement. Refinement? Yes. I maintain my Indigo CS and Manza like my family members. Both purchased as pre-owned cars. Any cars other than Tata gives me that toyish feeeling during driving. My sister drives a SX-4, its absolutely toyish, like a gamepad, brother using a Wagon-R, its toyish too. Tata cars require slightly more care because their engine assembly is little more complicated than other similar cars.

What's complicated about the engine assembly in TATA cars?
      TATA Indica Vista Quadrajet (2009) | Suzuki GS 150R (2010) | TVS Wego (2011) | TVS Victor GL (2004) - SOLD

Check engine indication for a small issue and service guys making it difficult to diagnose.

The 1.4L DiCOR/CR4 engine has a variable geometry turbo, 4 valves per cylinder and a 4 stage fuel filtration system. Not many people realize that the DiCOR is one of the most sophisticated engines made in India. Comparatively, Ford and Renault diesels have antiquted internals. The MultiJet 90 and the Hyundai CRDi engines are the only ones that come close to the 1.4L DiCOR/CR4 in terms of sophistication and refinement. If you've driven the newer eCS, you'll agree that there is almost nil turbo lag, and more than adequate power across the range.

Before the common rail tech arrived, the Indigo's 475TCIC was possibly the most refined and powerful small capacity diesel engine in India. I have an Indigo LX TDI, and it still surprises me with how refined it is after 40K kms. It was a bit rough initially, but has only gotten more refined with age. Tata engines respond very well to TLC. I must say that I used only Premium diesel till the prices skyrocketed, after which I've been using the factory recommended additives (System D), which are getting increasingly harder to find.

Because Tata is an Indian brand. We Indians have this complex which compels us to think everything Indian is inferior.
