Sounds funny initially but on a serious note what is wrong with these companies?

The major recall from Toyota and now its GM and these are the companies which have the largest customer base in US if I am not wrong.

Not only toyota, there is Hyundai,Maruti,VW and now GM. Nothing is wrong with them. Only thing they were worried was quantity rather than quality

GM Recalls 40,000 2005-2006 Chevrolet Corvettes, Steering Co

General Motors recalled 40,028 2005 and 2006 Chevrolet Corvettes today, addressing an issue that could trigger the stability control system at inappropriate times.

2005 and 2006 Corvettes built between March 2004 and January 2006 and equipped with the optional tilt and telescoping steering column are currently being recalled. GM says that excessive adjustment of the column could cause a signal interruption, possibly toying with the car's active handling system.

If the signal is interrupted, the car may display a warning to "service the active handling system," and possibly engage one or more of the brakes on either side, causing the car to pull to the left or right. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the sudden change in movement could lead to a collision, and has three crashes on record attributed to the issue.

GM says it has already begun notifying owners of the recall, and will perform the repairs (likely involving the wheel position sensor or its connector) free of charge.
