There are plenty of lighting upgrades for the Cruze. Right from aftermarket projector headlamps to just bulb upgrades. In this thread I shall try to keep you all informed what works best.

      1. If you want to upgrade to a different pair of sexy looking headlamps, there are a ton of Audi replica headlamps available with twin projector setup and DRLs.

I would advise against going for the single projector headlamps, just a waste of money. Not enough output from them. Cost anywhere between 30-50k including headlamps, HID bulbs, ballasts etc.

If you want looks and good throw, get the double projector lamps. Costs will hit the roof, roughly will cost you around 60-75k.

Use only 4300K bulbs if you drive a lot at the night and through rains and foggy areas.

Would I buy the above? No! 70k is a LOT of money for headlight upgrade. I find it totally pointless.

So what's the solution to those who don't want to spend big bucks for their Cruze?

Between Tadu and myself we've tried almost every bulb and relay kit there is available.

      Bulbs tried:
      1. Philips 90/100s Made in Germany.

      2. Philips 100/130s Made in Germany.

      3. Philips 100/130s Made in China.

      4. Hella 90/100s.

Did any if them work to the extent we wanted them to? No!

But fortunately for us, when I was in Chennai not so long ago, I picked up 2 bulbs from hareshjethwani and they turned out to be brilliant. Just what the doctor had ordered for.

Here is a picture of the bulbs.

Philips Rally 1256RA H4 100/90s. These are Made in China. We've also purchased the same bulbs in Bangalore, but looks like the newer batches aren't as good. The ones we got from Haresh are just mind blowing. So nice that Tadu has 2 of them running in his car and 4 for spare.

I have 2 running in my car and 8 spare bulbs. Haresh warned me that these bulbs blow often, so decided to stock them up. Infact I am planning to order half a dozen more.

The bulbs light up the entire road, irrespective of the speeds we do. Earlier all lights limited us from driving fast at night. Now doing speeds of 200 with these bulbs is a piece of cake.

      Relays tried:

      1. Bosch relay kit.

      2. Hella relay kit.

      3. Roots relay kit.

Some pics of the Roots relay kit.

Among all, the best combo we found was the bulbs stated above along with the Roots relay kit. Will roughly cost you around 1400 with installation.

Also, do not try anything more than 90/100s, we've seen higher wattage bulbs melt the ceramic holders.

Believe me when I say, I will not be upgrading to anything else for a long time to come.

PS - Not sure if the same combo will work for all cars with H4 bulbs, but I know Tadu's dad and drivers were all praises for these bulbs once they fitted it to their Accent back in Kerala.

So grab yours now from hareshjethwani.

Let's do a bulk order from Bangy. I saw the light and throw of these when I went with Tadu on the Kolar drive and couldn't believe these were just 90/100. I run Philips Ralley 90/100 myself and they come no where close to these.

The problem is there are too many fakes running around and they look exactly the same,at a philips meet the marketing manager mentioned that the volumes of philips which sells in india is more than what philips manufactures,so that's a serious statement and proves the volumes of fakes going around.
PS- i read the same statement above about Black Label too(that in india the volumes of BL which sell are more than what Jhonnie Walker manufactures)

What u guys think is different in that set of bulbs? What is producing outstanding light compared same spec but recent ones from Philips?

I saw a mention of less life by Rahul. Is it the trade off in new bulbs that better life but less light ?

I'm in for 2 Pairs of these genuine Philips bulbs.
Long distance night drives are getting almost impossible to avoid due to lack of time and my Osram Night Breaker candles would surely get me killed if I don't shed my self-imposed aversion to bulb upgrades.
I was planning to get a pair of Hella 4000's but at the moment, I just don't have the time and patience to DIY sturdy light bars and upgrades to 100W HID's. It may even turn out to be an overkill if at all I find time to do it!!!

Not really sure. But what we are certain is that the same set of bulbs picked up from Bangalore were not even remotely as bright as the ones I picked up from Haresh! The spread pattern on these bulbs is very different to almost all the bulbs we've tried. Now whether the ones we picked up in Bangalore are fake or the ones Haresh has are fake, god alone knows

A few theories we could guess were:

      1. German ones had a very focused beam and throw ensuring that it didn't affect the vehicles on the opposite lane thus showing diminished output. Knowing German perfection, it's plausible they took extreme care to ensure quality control. While the Chinese ones need not have necessarily had to have the same effect.

      2. Other guess is, probably these are fake, in which case there is very little control over the "legal" norms prescribed. But that again, is just something we discussed as a possible cause. Fake or real, as long as they put out the light they are currently, I don't care. I will keep buying them.

      3. Precisely what you said. Reduce intensity to prolong life. The batch I currently have are from the 10/2010 batch. So if any of you have access to a newer batch, we can always compare.

Can't think of any other reasons! But hey, like I mentioned earlier. As long as these put out the light they currently are, honestly, I wouldn't bother if they are genuine or fake.

If possible, get an accurate multimeter and compare the two (Hi and Lo) filament resistances (ohmic) on both these bulbs. It might give a vague indication on which ones are closer to their marked rating.

We used to have 100W Halonix bulbs on sealed Lucas beams during early rallying days. The light were ultra bright and with 4 of them on full pelt, night turns into day! I'm yet to see anything even remotely close in terms of illumination. But later it turned out that they consume a lot more than 100W... IIRC, each drew some 180W!!!
