Low-light shootout: Lumia 920 vs PureView 808 vs iPhone5 vs One X vs SIII

Lumia 920 absolutely demolishes the competition including PureView 808 in low-light conditions

There's a gallery in the article which contains low-light pics taken only by Lumia 920. They look seriously good! Even digi-SLRs struggle to take such pics and need loads of manual settings to match it.

Serious photography fans can download the original photos from bottom of that article which is 101mb zip

However, in the above test, all phones had auto-mode. Which means that night mode was off. Another article tests them all with night mode on (if available). Here are the results. Please note that this test has iPhone 4S and not 5.

There's a serious difference from last post. Galaxy SIII is far better with night mode on, nearly rivaling Lumia 920. Though there's no denying Lumia 920 is the new king of camera phones, defeating PureView 808 for most purposes. PureView 808 is still good for long distance where Lumia 920's paltry 8MP camera will not fare much good. Based on above two posts, my conclusion for low-light shooting will be- Lumia 920 > SIII > iPhone 5 > PureView 808 > One X. Right?

      Those are some excellent shots.

But, with false advertisements, $3.8 billion dollar loss & 10,000 job cuts in 18 months, higher price than Galaxy SIII...sadly Nokia is not going in the right direction. And with HTC Windows Phone 8X being a copy cat of Lumina 920, i wonder how Nokia is going to survive this.

Just don't underestimate a sleeping Finn!!!
Traditionally they are so used to sleeping most of the year and wake up to a bang later!!!
I've had opportunities to works on some of their design (not mobiles, but related technology) and I can vouch that Nokia has one of the best and robust design & development processes in the industry. Market performance is a different story though.

I wish so. Till date, Nokia 3100 is my favorite phone. Built like a brick to last for ever. Not so long ago, they almost had the entire market share leaving a huge gap with sony and samsung. Now, i can hardly see a Nokia phone anywhere.

The build quality of old phones were something!!!
Our new generation of users may never come to cherish those levels of build quality!

you're absolutely right Digital Vampire, these phones were built like battle tanks, when i was in college i was using a siemens s4, which i found embrassing due to the obvious size...my friends would refer to it as the 'eenth'(brick), i wanted to give it away(because i wasn't able to sell it) but nobody even wanted it for free

an employee of mine lost his mobile last week, so i the s4 out after five years in hibernation..and it still works, original battery, original charger, and still get three days backup

I told you guys the camera on this is great. Even more noticeable is the image stabilization feature. Even your grandpa can shoot a stellar shake-free video with his shaky hands. Its stabilization is even better than entry level DSLRs.

blackhorn when were you in college?

EDIT - I mean in which year did you graduate from college.

I had owned both of them. Yes, 1100 was the best phone of its time.

Now, the stabilization comes in the lens for Nikon and Canon. So, entry level cameras can also enjoy the pro level stabilization benefits.
