Swapping Petrol Engine to a Diesel Engine is not advisable as it would involve too much modification and expensive and will not be reliable. If the petrol prices are really costing a hole in your pocket, do think about acquiring a diesel car and if possible selling off the Ikon

Vijay, the amount of money you will spend in sourcing a diesel engine and mating that to your Ikon will cost you as much, if not more than the petrol you will fill for a number of years. Not to mention the unreliability of the whole job.

It is not just the engine that you need to change, but the gearbox as well that will mate with that particular diesel motor. Not just that, you will have to get a different fuel pump, ECU, the biggest headache will be fabricating new engine mounts if the existing mounts are not the same fit for the new engine. Then you have trouble with the driveshafts and what not.

Sincerely, leaving the legality side aside for a moment, either get a CNG conversion on your petrol car or I'd suggest you sell the Ikon and buy another diesel car to save you the trouble of having to go through one hell of a nightmare with the conversion.
