      change of head lights

I am planning to change my head lamps . As i have DRL's fitted , i want to match its colour to that of head lamp. The head lamp which is now there is Philips 130/100 with relay changed.
I dont need HID or Projector setup.
I just want to change my head lamp, so any bulb which gives white light is preferred.
      Suggestions please.

The same 100/130 you get it in white light. Use that. Simple

You are right. Also 130/100 may reduce the life of the reflectors also unless he has changed it to a higher capacity one IMO

sriharsha even i heard the same but i dont use the car for long drives...generally only short distances less than 200-300 kms. so that should not be problem. White lights are only to enhance looks of the car

AFAIK, reflectors cannot be changed to higher capacity ones. so 130/100 is recommended only if its ok for people to change their headlamp assy within a year or two.

they enhance the looks no doubt. but you being in kerala (if i'm not wrong), i would still recommend you stay with your 100/90's or if still want to go ahead with the 130/100 white light, then you can do so and in addition, i would recommend you to add some aux lights with normal yellow bulbs, which will help you when you drive thru thick fog or heavy rains. choose wisely.

      ^

blue/white spectrum lights have good throw, but can wreck havoc if you are driving through thick fog or rain as the blue/white light gets refracted as it moves into denser medium, yellow gets bent/refracted to a lesser degree which is why it has better pentration under such conditions

I will look at the problem with a slightly different perspective. White headlamps and yellow fogs!

the answer if in your question itself, DRL: day time running lights, they are more for aesthetic appeal rather than function, otherwise they would have been synonymous with fog lamps and such

as for the explanation, here is diagram to illustrate what occurs when white light penetrates a water droplet

as you can see, in case of white light it splits into its constituents, much like in a rainbow or prism, in case of monochromatic blue light, the refraction is to a larger degree as compared to yellow, because yellow has higher wavelength than that of blue
