      Enfield Classic 500 Launch confirmed 4th Nov

      First off, I'd like to ask the guys who run the site why the 'bikes' section is a puny little single line tucked away at the bottom of the pile? Surely people who do the same stuff (and then some more) with 2 wheels less than those in cages deserve better than this? We use up less tyres, fuel and no harmful refridgerants at all - for such sterling contribution to the environment all we end up getting is a crappy single-line mention almost as an afterthought.

      Now that the rant is over, here's why I am here:

      1. Has anyone seen the Enfield Classic 500 in the flesh?
      2. I hear the version in India is different from the one abroad - even in things such as looks. Several people claim that it does not look like the pics we saw a year back. Is this true?

      That said, I've just received a mail from 'Royal' (s******) Enfield to inform us that the launch is on the 4th of November, prices will only be available at launch, and dealers 'would generally accept' a booking for Rs.10,000/-. The mail doesnt sound very convincing about whether or not the dealer is BOUND to accept a booking for 10k - so your dealer may demand more.

      Anyone planning to buy this thing? I liked the looks of it in the pics that came out a year ago, but knowing 'Royal' Enfield to be Royally Snooty when it comes to giving quality stuff to its vocally loyal customers back home, I would really like to see this thing in the flesh and understand what all they've stripped off the original version sent abroad.

      Steer, we need people like you to express your opinions. The Bikers Zone is now moved to the top. Not as an afterthought or a reaction but I guess we are all bikers at heart but have not put too much thought into structuring a bikers forum. There is also a thread inviting opinions on how people think the bikers forum should be structured.

      The silencer in the Indian version will be a loong one like in the new Enfields. This i'm told has to do with noise regulations. Then prolly we won't be getting EFI.

      Wheels.. hmm 18"er offers more tyre choices but doesn't add anything to the looks, with the huge gap between the wheel and the fender at the rear.

      I had a chat with the HSR Services RE Showroom in Blr, they are expecting the bike to be launched early 2010, would be happy to catch a glimpse of this new macho bull....

      The launch date is 4th November, as confirmed by Royal Enfield themselves.

      I guess someone at a place most of us know has actually booked the new 500CC Bullet at Coimbatore and the approx on road price is 1.4 lacs.....???
      Its so simple to be happy, but it is so difficult to be simple....

      1.4 is not a bad price, really. I only want to know what they've stripped from the bike for India.

      I have a few guesses:
      1. Radial/tubeless tires.
      2. That so called "off road silencer" which is bent in more places than the bike's frame.
      3. Single seat configuration, though this wont result in much/any cost saving.
      4. Leather seats replaced by rexine.
      Its so simple to be happy, but it is so difficult to be simple....

      Hi folks,

      Test drove the RE 500 classic a week ago. My first feeling is powerful bike, easy ride, feel like japanese bike. True bullet feel is absent. But with AVL engine no oil leaks and EFI gives a good mileage of over 35 kmpl., compared to 500 CI max of 25 kmpl. For long rides, as any other bullet breed, 500 classic is sure comfortable bike.

      For Indian market, RE Classic is launched with kickstart along with self start. I Personally feel price tag of 1.5 lakh seems high.
