      Cruze Fog Lamp upgrades

Cruze fog lamps use 35W H8 bulbs. Like these -

H8 bulbs are usually used in fog lamps, or low beams. Hence they are mostly available in 35W only. Did see some in 100W on ebay/amazon, but could not find any in 55W. And 100W bulbs in the tiny fog lamps will melt it for sure.

That is when I discovered that H8, H9 and H11 bulbs are very similar to each other. And H11 bulbs are used in high beams, so you get them in all wattages and colors, and are cheap.

      Picked these 55W H11s from Amazon - Philips H11 CrystalVision Ultra Headlight Bulb,Pack of 2 : Amazon.com : Automotive
The Xenon(sic) variety. But a very light blue tint, looks white for all practical purposes.

Now there are some minor differences between the bulbs, hope the difference is clear in the picture below. H8 on the left, H11 on the right.

Was out of practice using a dremel, but even then was only a couple of minutes to take out some extra metal from the H11s to fit the Cruze fog lamp sockets. Thanks to the Digital Vampire for lending me the Dremel.

Lights look pretty decent now, and I guess I will desist from any HID upgrades. Will post pictures later, left my SLR in Kerala last trip.

How to replace the fog lamps bulbs, from the workshop manual. Contrary to what I posted earlier, you do not need to remove the front bumper, or skid plates from below the car. You can reach behind the fog lamps, with a little bit of difficulty. Tagging eccentricloner, I guess you were asking about fog lamps removal procedure earlier.

Total time for doing the mod, including grinding out the H11 lips - 20mins. Time to write this up - Another 30 mins.

Anyday better than the H8s which came in the Cruze.

But dont remember the Civic fog lamp output anymore, but if it already comes with H11s, then you should test it out!
