Lifetime of Ford Figo diesel Engine

      Hi GearHeads,
What is the lifetime of a ford figo diesel engine in terms of KM assuming all scheduled maintenance and servicing is carried out? After the official life (afterlife ) can one re-bore the cylinders for this vehicle? Is this normally done for diesels? I've heard this re-boring done for petrol driven vehicles (bikes, cars) but not heard of it being done on diesels.

Good question. I am hoping it can come at least for 1 lac kms I think Ford itself gives a warranty of 3 years (or) 1.2 lac kms.

Probably other TDCi Experts can comment

I would say about 2.5-3 Lac kms provided proper maintenance is carried out. Also I am not too sure what all is done after that as i never paid any attention to it beyond 2 lac kms. I have driven the fiesta in the plant which had clocked some 2.5-2.75 lac kms IIRC and had no engine work done apart from regular maintenance.

Ford India provides 1 lac km warranty on the car, so this can be termed as official life span of the car and the engine. However in practice, it will depend on factors like maintenance, driving style, driving conditions and engine quality. So if we assume that everything was taken care of, in my opinion, one can expect engine to last around 2 lac kms.

Edit: And I think engine life of 1.4 TDCi is irrespective of the car, it may be Figo/Fiesta/Classic/Fusion/Ikon!

I would say life of any car would depend upon :-

      1. How well its been used/driven. Whether it has been abused/misused.
      2. How well it is maintained (Timely servicing/addressing issues, quality of servicing/repairs etc.)
      3. What kind of roads it is normally driven on.
      4. How many people drive the car. Lesser the number of people driving it, the better !
      5. Did the car have any major accidents (This can be linked to point no 2, in terms of how well issues were rectified due to accidents, if any)

Considering that the suspension, drive train and other moving parts are maintained well , i would say the engine would last easily for 2L+ kms with regular oil changes.

I think you are mixing up two issues here. Ford provides 1 lac km warranty does not mean that the life of the engine is 1 lac km. If that is the case, then Ford should advertise as "Lifetime warranty" or something like that. Ford is just providing a 1 lac km warranty. Correct me if i am wrong.

Agree about your 1.4 TDCi comment.

Figo 1.4 is having the same engine as Ford Classic(Old Fiesta) apart from few minor tweaks done for performance.
There are lot many Fiesta's on road as mentioned by Mustang.101 which had clocked more than 1+ lakhs Kms without any major issues.
The fact that the Figo 1.4 engine is same as the Fiesta 1.4 engine is one of the reason I went for Figo Diesel.

Few days back I had a chat with my friend in Kerala who owns a 1.4 Figo. Car had clocked 84K+ Kms.

Yeah, you are correct! I just wanted to highlight that Ford is confident that engine will last at least 1 lac kms. But it can be much more depending on the various factors .

1.4l tdci can easily last 2.5 lac kms. I have an ikon 1.4 and it has done 94000 something kms. its still feels crisp and energetic as new. Just the regular maintenance.
There was a fiesta 1.4 in my family done 2.25 lac kms. without major niggles. And driving pleasure is a bonus.
i think the time to change timing belt on my ikon is coming closer. any advice on this is welcome.
