      WTB: Active capable HUs

Looking to buy active capable HUs like DE80PRS or Clarion CZ702. I find my Alpine 9887 has limited crossover and tuning options

I suggest you look into the manual of each of these HU's and check their Passive as well as Active XO capabilities, range, slope and other features and compare them to the 9887

But yes using the Pioneer DEH-80PRS even if the XO capabilities are same as the 9887 will be a really good upgrade. 3 x 24-bit DAC , Auto EQ, WAV File playback, iPod DAC Bypass etc.

Audison Bit Ten D is alos a good option if looking for a budget DS around 23k to 25k and this one comes with the DRC as a part of the package. A regular HU that can support WAV files or even the Kenwood KOS-A300 can be used through the AUX, tuned via laptop and your volume, Fader, Balance, Presets, Subwoofer Level and Source from the DRC

You are absolutely right about reading manuals. There is a fine print in the 9887 manual that says "The frequencies of adjacent bands cannot be adjusted within 4 steps". I was wondering why i am not able to change by 3rd band from 400Hz to 500Hz when my 4th band is at 1KHz . Pushing my 4th band to 2.5KHz helped me to up the 3rd band.

This is 9887 Adjustable Frequency bands

      Adjustable frequency bands for PQ:
20 Hz to 20 kHz (in 1/3 octave steps)
      Band-1: 20 Hz~80 Hz (63 Hz)
      Band-2: 50 Hz~200 Hz (150 Hz)
      Band-3: 125 Hz~3.2 kHz (400 Hz)
      Band-4: 315 Hz~8 kHz (1 kHz)
      Band-5: 800 Hz~20 kHz (2.5 kHz)

      Gain -6 to +6
      Q 1, 1.5, 3

      Adjustable slope: FLAT*, 6 dB/oct., 12 dB/oct., 18 dB/oct.,24 dB/oct.

      Clarion CZ702

      Band 1/2/3/4/5 Gain (-12 to +12)
      Band 1/2/3/4/5 Freq 20Hz to 20KHz through
      Band 1/2/3/4/5 Q 1,3,5,7,20

      Slope -6db, -12db

      Pioneer 80PRS

      Slope 0 to 24db
There is no parametric EQ . 16 band graphic EQ and Auto EQ.

I think i will hold on to my 9887. The 4 step protection in adjusting the PQ is just the practice of Alpine it seems.

Could be ... It might be common to all Imprint compatible HU's when using the H100 kit as well ... though I've never tried PEQ on that ...

If it is possible to audition the 80PRS on your setup then worth a shot IMO

Agreed Karan. P80RS has equally good crossover adjustments and its 16 band EQ should be good enough. Unlike 9887, 80PRS will bypass the iPhone & iPad DAC which is a big plus. I can connect the line out of my HM-601 player to aux input and play high resolution songs which is another big plus.

But, i will give it a try with 9887 once under the guidance of Mi10 and Power Zone..It has a magnificent DAC. Mi10, what do you say?

Yep, 9887 is good unit - If its in good condition, then you dont need to change it.
