AFAIK, Eicher doesn't have a stronghold in Kerala. I would suggest that you go with Leyland. You can look at the Leyland 1616il chassis. They are known to provide good mileage figures. Tagging our on-board truck experts - scudmissile007, thecdkfactor

^its better to invest a little more and have a peace of mind, than suffer later.
Eicher is not a bad product but the company built cabin will not take the abuse as custom built cabins, after some time it will be a PITA as the cabin becomes rattle tin box.
Consider tata 1613 or leyland 1616il which will have much better resale value. If you buying sub 10tonner you better go with eicher, but 16tonner better to stick with leyland or tata.
Based on the serviceability leyland is better with its inline pump,no electronics and but tata is cheaper.
As you use it in one way load and one way unladen buy a leyland, heard leyland, tata are giving huge discounts due to decreasing demand for M&HCVs.
Observe other's are what using and get some suggestion from them don't hesitate,as you are investing a lot of money.
      sorry,got confused 16kl is a 25tonner,then don't hesitate go with leyland 2516il.

I second what scudmissile007 said. Better to invest a little more than the cheapest offering and get peace of mind for a longer time. AMW makes some decent products, but their after-sales service and resale value are not known.

Most of the tankers in Kerala are built on AL chassis. Doesn't it make sense to stick to Leyland, in the interests of better resale value and serviceability?

I mistook 16KL to 16T. 2516il is the perfect choice. Just FYI, the 3116il gives great mileage, of over 4.5kmpl. With a lower tonnage, you can be assured of even better mileage with the 2516il

Assume that you are looking for a 16 tonner. For a 16 KL tanker, considering the density of diesel to be 0.832 kg/l, you need a 13.3 Tonnes payload. Which implies that your truck will always be overloaded.

Coming to the suggestion, clearly TATA and AL are the market leaders in this segment. I suggest you go with AL because the 160 inline engine is proven and is known for its mileage. AL is easier and cheaper to maintain with good availability of service and spare part support. Eicher is not as successful in the M& HCV segment as it is in the ICV segment. The best time to buy is now, as both TATA & AL are struggling in sales.

Why do you need a cabin? IMHO, you can have a better cabin built on your own and can take more rugged loads and abuses.

AMW does not provide a 16 tonner in this segment. It only has a tipper in the 16 tonner segment.

Why have you not considered TATA? Any specific reasons?
