How essential is TAX chalan till I get RC book for my new car?

Recently I bought my car from Pratham Motors, Bellandur, Bangalore and they didn't give me the TAX challan at the time of delivery saying it would not make any problem as it's a new vehicle and within 15 days you will get your RC book delivered.

I checked in Transport Department and I could find my vehicle listed and the road tax paid properly. Now I have 2 queries:

      1. How risky is it to drive without the TAX chalan? If it is, what should I do? Can I approach RTO for a duplicate chalan?
      2. How long does it generally take to get the RC book delivered?

      Thanks in advance.
      Cheers,
      Neil.

I always keep at least a photocopy of the Tax Challan in the car, until I get the proper document. If going out of town make sure you carry the original as well.

RC Card takes a month or thereabouts to reach you.

However the dealer should have given you the copy of the Insurance Policy and the LTT Paid receipt at the time of delivery itself if your car has already been registered.

Thanks. I got the insurance Policy copy, but not the LTT paid receipt . Any idea what should I do now, apart from waiting for the RC book to come?
      Cheers,
      Neil.

After getting inputs from you guys, I posted this concern to Pratham's facebook page. I got a call from their customer care manager within 1 hr of the post, saying that they would provide me the Smart Card (RC) along with the Tax paid chalan within 2 WDs. And I got those two exactly on the second day. The sales person came down to my office personally and handed me over the RC card and TAX paid chalan....

      Relieved... phewww...

IIRCyou need not worry until you get the RC card. Until then you can use the TAX challan which is legal. But don't take it out of state until you get the documents.

Please carry this TAX challan, Insurance and PO of your car along with the recipts. You never know what all things they will ask if you are stopped

      You always need to have
      1. LTT paid receipt
      2. Insurance paper
      3. RC
      4. PUC (if vehicle is 1+ yr old)
      5. Of-course DL
