Hi Gearheads!!! from Manglore - Page 2

Have always been a big fan of the Avenger. Rode one belonging to a very close friend a lot during my college days. Back then it was called Eliminator. Sitting at the rear was always a PITA. But riding it always got you the looks.

Congrats on the bike para_7k. May your tribe grow.

anubis has had a few problems with his bike and has been trying to sort out things. So you could check with him if you have any issues on your bike and compare.

Congrats on your purchase para_7k. It's a great bike and comfortable one too.. Yes, Bajaj has to work on Quality, they seem to have taken the segment for granted. <Having no competition in this segment>. I use my ride for my daily office commute and the present Odo reading is 20k, you do need to take care of the chrome and drive chain regularly with the scheduled services. You will love this ride, you need to take this ride for long rides with your rider partner to know the difference between other rides and your's.

I used to use Chain Lube Spray, but the chain gets dry very soon, don't remember the brand name but was provided a service center at 300rs. Now I use 90 grade oil once a week, this was suggested by a mech. who services my ride in A.S.S. I am told this is used in bullet gear box. Just put 20 to 30 ml and keep the rear wheel spinning in idle for few minutes I have not had chain issue till date. This has become my Sunday routine.

You can also try the 140 grade gear oil, which is even thicker.

Also, can you let me know what is the air pressure you maintain? The manual specifies 21 and 25 for front and rear which seems too less.

Thanks anubis, Can you also let me know if you had any problems with the no kick start.

The Bike takes some time to warm up in the mornings and I see that it requires to fired up many times which may take a toll on the battery.

oh yes this was one experience.... this one time i was on my way to mysore, just a casual ride. i was ripping at max it could do until i reached ramanagar and stopped for breakfast. after all that is done, i come back to my bike and it wont start. i did all tat turn of ignition for a while what ever i could think off and it did not start. pushed it for 2 or 3 kms to some mechanic and the mechanic checked filter, battery n watever he could and after all that he said "battery has drained. He told the shops wont be open until next two hours, U can push start the bike and by the time u reach mysore battery will be charged.". But he changed spark plug telling somethin wrong with it(or may be coz i was his first customer for the day and he didn't want to send me without charging me). I was too ****ed to even take a look at the spark plug, which btw was perfectly fine when i checked after reaching home that night.

anyways coming back to it, In mandya i remembered that there is a BAJAJ service centre, so i directly go there and tel him the problem, he says its the self start motor, give me sometime i will fix it. charges me some 850/-. I asked details he showed some bits and pieces lying next to the lift and told it was worn out (some springs worn out or something). Still irritated coz of the whole incident so i just take off without checking what exactly this was. i get to mysore and start back to bangalore and i am not kidding, i did not wanna risk stopping anywhere coz i was scared where it will not start. but it had to happen, there was a small traffic jam n i slowed down a little and puff, bike stops... another ten mins of praying, cursing and wat not, it starts.

Got to yeshwanthpur and again stops. Luckily my mechanic was available he came, again push start the bike and we get to his shop. he told its a new bike, there will be warranty take it to BAJAJ only. (bike had just done 3400km when all this was happening).

next morning i bunk work, get there all furious to blast at them and what do i see, another guy with the same problem on his bike which had done just 750km, and another guy with p220 with 1000+km on ODO same problem. the service manager very lightly said, "yes sir this engine has that problem. If something like this happens you can get it here we will fix it". I was like "are u F***in kidding me?" same expression on other two people too. coz they were stranded in some godforsaken place too when this happend. And also note he was not even ripping coz his bike was just 750Km old, n he didn look like he would have taken any chances with run in procedure.

With that kinda attitude from a service manager i was like can not expect anythin better from bajaj and been giving it to mechanic near my place ever since.

This might be a major problem in the self start motor, but atleast if there was a kick start i would not have been so worried. i would atleast know i can start the bike. So this is one scary thing but apparently not all have faced it. So hopefully ur bike does not give u any such problem.
