MSIL contemplating a TATA Ace killer!!

Countries largest car maker is mulling to foray in to India's fast growing commercial space and MSIL is not the only player who wants to dirty their hand on this segment, earlier we saw similar move from all commercial player and this time for a change a passenger car maker is planning. Currently TATA Ace dominates this segment has over 50% market share in this segment, MSIL mulling to come with a model with their existing pick up sold in international market. MSIL already uses this platform for EECO.

Suzuki already sells pick up truck in South East Asian countries and plans to use the same platform for this pickup truck, MSIL is already developing a 800 CC Diesel engine for its small cars and planning to use the same engine with a bit of de-tune to their pick up truck, original plan to develop this engine was to power their small cars Alto, Wagon R and A-Star with Diesel heart, however MSIL plants to plonk in a pick up truck and test the water.

MSIL has code named this project as "AP" and scheduled for 2015-2017. MSIL foresees huge opportunity in this segment and with vast sales and service network this product would be a serious threat to tried and tested ACE. Ace is already seeing severe competition from AL Dost.

A nice piece of information. Rumours are also floating that the new 800cc diesel will deliver a mileage of 30 kmpl which may give a stiff competition to their own cars which run on the 1.3 MJD national engine.

Is it based on the MJD or its their own engine? If its their own than how Suzuki is involved in this or is it purely a Maruti development?

New and own engine, they cannot shove off 2 cylinder from MJD as it is a licensed product

IIRC beat also has MJD with 3 cylinders, isn't it? But maybe they have licensed to modify that.

Interesting news and Maruti could do well here as their brand name sells, but this is TATA territory and TATA has enough time to counter this move. Anandv267 you could look into this for an upgrade to your ACE in a couple of years time

MJD engines are jointly developed by FIAT and GM while they were alliance partners, so GM has equal rights on MJD engines
