SPIED: New Opel Zafira 7-Seater MPV

The next-generation of GM Europe's Opel (Vauxhall in Britain) Zafira MPV has been spotted by our man with the long-lens undergoing development testing in Germany.

Opel's traditional harlequin suit of camouflage leaves a lot to the imagination about the Zafira's looks, but expect a sleeker shape incorporating many of the styling cues seen on the Astra, Insignia and the Meriva, including the creased swoop behind the front wheels.

From what we can tell by looking at these photos, it appears that Opel hasn't applied the Meriva's trick suicide doors on the Zafira which gets conventional rear doors.

The spy shots also give us a sneak peak of the dashboard, which shouldn't differ much from the one found in the latest Astra that forms the basis for the Zafira.

Like the current model, Opel's new minivan will get three rows of seats featuring the firm's FlexSpace seating system with room up to seven passengers.

Unsurprisingly, the new Zafira will use hardware from the recently revealed Astra hatchback. Expect to see the same suite of turbocharged and naturally aspirated petrol and turbo diesel engines when the car arrives in late 2011 - early 2012.

      Hot new BMW 1-series spied

These are the first spy pictures of the hot new BMW 1-series coupe, which Autocar understands will be good for 350bhp and reach UK showrooms in 2011.

BMW’s M division has been working on its entry-level model in a bid to attract younger buyers to BMW’s performance cars.

The heavily disguised 1-series’ identity is given away by its large alloys and large drilled brake discs. It’s also sporting a new spoiler and wider wheelarches at the front and rear.

Power for the model will come from a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 350bhp. More than outright power, though, it is torque that is likely to play a more significant role in defining the new car’s character.

No figures have been released, but with BMW’s standard turbocharged 3.0-litre six already producing an M3-equalling 295lb ft, the newly developed M version of this engine should be good for at least 310lb ft.

The basis for the new M-car is today’s 1-series coupé. Its driveline is likely to feature a standard six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and an electronically controlled M differential.

With a kerb weight of not much more than 1500kg, its straightline performance should be close to that of the 1580kg M3. A relatively short 3.15:1 final drive promises a 0-60mph time of around 5.5sec.

Fuel-saving measures such as brake energy regeneration and possibly a stop-start system should also ensure the new M1 is no thirstier than the 135i, which delivers 30.7mpg in six-speed manual guise.

Underneath, the layout of the 1-series coupé’s MacPherson strut (front) and multi-link (rear) suspension will remain the same. However, M division engineers have set about altering the suspension properties, with firmer spring and dampers, and a new set of bushes.

It will slot into the range beneath the M3 coupé, and should cost around £38,000, £8000 more than the 135i Coupé M Sport. That means it will compete directly with Audi’s forthcoming RS3.

now will this be called M1? I don't think so coz they'd like to leave the M1 name to their legendary car.

      could it me 1 M? like the X5 M and X6 M?

or could it left as 135si?

now currently, this is the headache at bimmer.

Hennessey Venom GT hits the track

The Hennessey Venom GT was out testing on track, and while the minute of footage tends toward the Zapruder end of 'gotcha' videos, there are still some pretty clear sights and sounds of the stretched and steroided Elise with the giant badonkadonk.

We're going to guess this is the base, 725-horsepower version and what can be heard of it sounds pretty compelling. If nothing else, maybe this will help you dole out the $600K necessary to do some track time in one of your own. Follow the jump for the video. Hat tip to Mikespeed95

Hennessey Venom GT blasts through Merry Ol' England

By all accounts, the Hennessey Venom GT is an all-new level of bat-guano crazy. When everyone's favorite Texas tuner announced that it would be creating a hand-crafted, mid-engine terror, we all knew it was going to be special, even if our feeble little minds couldn't quite comprehend just how incredible the car would be. Now that the covers are off and we know that a 725-horsepower V8 feeds the rear tires a universe of punishment, we can't help but want a little seat time.

New footage of the $600,000 creation whipping around the streets and bi-ways of England has surfaced. Unlike the track video we caught a glimpse of last time, the new clip dishes up all the audio glory you'd expect from the behemoth

Scooped:: New Suzuki Swift Spied at the Nurburgring

Our spy photographers have scooped the next generation of the Suzuki Swift supermini during testing at the Nurburgring race circuit in Germany.

Even though the Japanese automaker's people did a pretty good job of bagging the prototype, it's not hard to see that the new Swift will keep its MINI-like design feel. However, the pictures suggest that it will boast larger and more prominent head- and tail lamps.

We don't have any details about the powertrain options, but buyers should expect a range of mainstream four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a more potent unit for the flagship Sport model.

It remains to be seen if Suzuki's recent tie-up with the Volkswagen Group will affect the powertrain offerings in the new Swift.

It is expected that the 2011 Suzuki Swift will be launched in production form at this year's Paris Motor Show in early September, with sales to start in Europe and other parts of the world by early 2011.

From what we've heard, there's also a strong possibility that Suzuki may bring the new Swift to North America where it will compete head on with the likes of the Toyota Yaris and the forthcoming 2011 Chevrolet Aveo.
