3 years with my Habanero Red cruiser

I am completing 3 years of ownership with my Honda Civic AT later this month. However my driving does not match the age, with just about 24k kms so far. Reasons for this is my short commute to office (less than 4 kms one side), ownership of two other cars in family (i10 and santro) which are used more frequently for city jaunts and frequent "out of town" status with trips abroad.

Civic is mostly used for long trips, 3-4 times a year to Kerala and other places. My experience so far has been excellent, absolutely no issues with the car, touchwood. After my purchase in 2010, I did only two upgrades/mods, both within 6 months, changed the OEM tyres to Michelin PLC 205 profiles and the low beam headlight bulbs to Philips Xtreme Power. Both were extremely useful to address the key weaknesses of the car as perceived by me. Only 4 of the tyres were changed and the spare wheel is the OEM Goodyear NCT on steel rim which remains completely unused so far. Michelin PLCs provide an extremely smooth ride on good roads while proving quite rugged on really bad roads. Never had a flat tyre yet. Headlights give a good view of the road for a longer range than OEM ones.

Dealership experience has been average to good whenever I managed to take the car there (Dakshin Honda). However unlike Trident Hyundai they dont have a habit of making reminder calls for servicing. In fact, I have not serviced my car for more than a year now, even though I plan to do it pretty soon. This year has been pretty bad for the car in terms of running (less than 4k so far) since I have been traveling on work most of the year.

I am not a fast driver by habit. However I do try to stretch a bit when a good opportunity comes. I have clocked a max speed of about 189 kmph so far somewhere between Salem and Dindigul and do 160s on my long trips when roads permit. I found the car to be pretty stable at most speeds, as long as the road is straight. Civic suspensions are absolutely not suitable for speeding, even on a slight curve. Being an AT is not really a big issue as paddle shifts help a lot to overcome the disadvantage to a good extend.

On the other end of the spectrum, I have also managed to get an FE of about 18 kmpl over a distance of about 140 kms with judicious usage of gas pedal and gears. Even though I am not a good keeper of stats, I can say that I usually manage to get an overall average FE of about 14 kmpl on a long trip (500+ kms) with a mix of sedate and not-so-sedate driving. In city drives, if I manage to get the engine warmed up sufficiently, I get an FE of about 10-11 kmpl. However my office commutes usually give only about 8.5 kmpl since the distance is less than 4 kms (10-15 mins) and engine does not get warmed up by then.

Towards making my car a true cruiser, the one upgrade I am looking forward in the coming months is the replacement of stock shocks with Koni FSDs. In fact this has been in the pipeline since I bought the car, but never materialized due to various reasons. I am expecting more feedback from owners who have done this mod.

Brilliantly maintained car appuchan...its looking beautiful.
well...if you are planning to go for aftermarket suspension...i will say go for it. It will completely transform this car...i mean i can say this with the TEINS SS i have in my civic.

I too had initially thought about koni FSDs, but did not get much positive reviews on it...neither from actual users or from autopysche where i got the TEINS fitted.

What i found out was...even if one goes for FSD's...u have to change the stock srpings as well...as they do not perform well with the stock springs. Then if u go for aftermarket springs...it'll only add to the cost...but also lead to drop in GC.

I feel TEINs are the best bet for the civic...if u have a budget of around 90k...otherwise there are plenty more options apart from these 2. Study the pros n cons of each every aftermarket setup available for civic...n then decide depending on your budget.

AFAIK...if u just go for shocks...eventually u'll need to go for the springs too. Stock springs along with aftermarket shocks is not a great match. So, my advice go for a setup which comes with both...or simply go for coil overs from TEINS, D2, Bilsteins etc.

It was well maintained in its first year! I would not dare to say that now I do detailing of the car whenever I go to my home town. But these days water scarcity is making me cut down on the process. I have a big car care kit ordered through shopyourworld sometime back including car wash liquid, clay bars, wax, polish, tire cleaner/spray, etc.

Regarding FSD I have not seen any negative feedback yet. That is why I am considering it. Teins are too much for my kind of usage.
