First Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X Rolls Off the Line

The 2010 model year is going to be unique for the Dodge Viper in many ways both on and off the track," said Ralph Gilles, president and CEO of the Dodge brand. "To kick it off with production of our ultimate special-edition Viper ACR-X is our way of paying tribute to the performance engineering expertise of our SRT team."

With its track-only attributes and $110,000 sticker price, the ACR-X isn't for everyone. Based on the American Club Racing Viper, the special-edition car is directly aimed at the elite road-racing crowd. The car may utilize the same 8.4-liter V-10 powerplant as the standard Viper, but it sure doesn't make the same power. Dodge increased power to 640 horses (a 40 horsepower jump) and 605 pound-feet of torque, courtesy of a new low-restriction exhaust and revised headers. A full roll cage, tuned suspension, racing seat, fuel cell, and a stripped-out interior help make the ACR-X a turn-key track contender.

The ACR-X won't be the only special-edition Viper for 2010, as Dodge intends to celebrate the last year of the second-generation car with a number of limited-edition models. Among the confirmed special edition Vipers will be the ACR 1.33 Edition, which pays homage to the production car lap record set at Laguna Seca raceway. Limited to 33 examples, the car will contrast the original ACR with its two-tone red-on-black color scheme. If that's not rare enough for you, production of a special Voodoo Viper -- painted black and highlighted with a graphite driver's stripe outlined in red -- will be limited to 20 cars. Dodge says additional models are on the way, but will only be disclosed closer to their respective launches.

Once production of the present Viper ends, Chrysler is promising an all-new model that will reportedly feature an infusion
