      News from Tata

      Tata Motors has come up with an upgraded version of the Indigo CS. The new Indigo CS e-series will now be BSIV compliant and will sport new exterior styling, upgraded interiors and added features.

      Exterior changes on the e-series CS includes new front grille, headlamp cluster, new front bumper design, white colour alloy wheels and body coloured outside rear view mirrors with integrated turn indicators. On the inside, the compact saloon gets two tone beige interiors, instrument cluster with chrome rings, Bluetooth connectivity with AUX, sporty alluminium pedals and a gradient climb assist feature.

      On the mechanical front, the engines are upgraded to meet BSIV emission norms. The e-series continues to be powered by the 16-valve DOHC 1396cc DICOR engine with power output of 69bhp and 14.29kgm of torque. The other engine option is the 1193cc petrol motor that produces 64bhp while churning out 10.2kgm of torque.

      The BSIV ready Indigo CS e-series is now available in the showrooms with a price hike in the range of Rs 6,000-10,000

      Nano Diesel to launch in India with Bosch Engine

      Tata Nano, the cheapest car in the world may soon come out with a Diesel Engine variant of its small car as announced earlier by Tata at the Auto Expo.Maybe by the end of the year 2010 or early 2011 the Tata Nano Diesel will start selling.There are rumors of Tata Nano Diesel already being road-tested by Tata, so it may come to showrooms sooner than expected. An Electric Variant, Tata Nano EV has already been announced by Tata at the Geneva Motor Show 2010.The detailed specifications have not been announced as yet, but it is expected to be around 0.75 Litre Engine with a maximum power output of about 30BHP.

      Tata Motors launches new Indica Vista Drivetech4

      Tata Motors has launched a new Indica Vista range today, the Indica Vista Drivetech4. The new range aims at improving the driving
      experience for its customers. The Indica Vista, essentially a second-generation Indica was launched in August 2008.

      The new Indica Vista Drivetech4 is Euro-4 compliant in both petrol and diesel forms. The company claims that a new Eurotech gearbox for diesel and petrol variants ensures higher torque at lower RPM, reduces vibration and provides a better shifting experience. In addition, the gearbox is also claimed to ensure cooled exhaust gas recirculation for lower emissions and hence a longer life.

      New features in the interior include a four-spoke tilt-adjustable steering wheel and height adjustable driver’s seat. 60:40 split folding rear seats allow for increased storage area when required. Entertainment gets a bump in the form of an integrated 2-din stereo system with Blue 5 and USB port compatibility. Dual airbags at the front and ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) add to the safety quotient of the car.

      Tata has priced the new car competitively from Rs 3.57 lakhs for the Safire petrol range and Rs 4.4 lakhs for the Quadrajet diesel range (ex-showroom, Delhi).

      Nano proving an expensive dream for Tata

      Tata group Chairman Ratan Tata did live up to his promise of delivering a Rs 1 lakh car. But, that promise is now costing Tata Motors dear.

      When Tata had conceived Nano , the "people's car" in 2003, hot-rolled steel, a benchmark product used in making car body panels, was priced at $399 a tonne. Seven years and 30,000 Nanos later, the price of hot-rolled steel has almost doubled, and is still surging.

      This has prompted component suppliers to ask for a revision in rates from Tata Motors. Steel accounts for 50 per cent of a car's weight.

      Tata Motors has promised to deliver the first 100,000 standard or entry-level Nanos at a dealer price of Rs 1 lakh.The first 100,000 (Nano) owners are price-protected, and they will get their cars at the prices announced on the launch day on March 23, 2009.
      When the plant was being built at Singur, margins were thin because steel prices were very high. When it moved to Pantnagar the situation improved as steel prices crashed. At the current steel prices, cost of production would be higher than the entry-level dealer price

      For the people's car, however, there is one saving grace. Almost half the bookings were for the top-end version, LX. Around 30 per cent were for the mid-level CX model and the remaining for the entry-level model.

      A Tata Motors spokesperson said the company has not yet decided the price or the date for accepting bookings for the next lot of Nanos.

      But it is increasingly becoming evident that unless the commodity cycle turns, the company would find it difficult to hold on to the Rs 1 lakh price tag.

      Tata Indigo CS BS4 update

      Tata Motors has launched a BS4 compliant version of the Indigo CS dubbed the Indigo CS e-series.The car gets few upgrades on the interior & exterior & also some added features.

      On the outside it gets a new front grille, a redesigned headlamp cluster, new front bumper design, a new set of alloy wheels & turn indicators on ORVM’S. On the inside it now gets two-tone beige interiors, chrome surrounded instrument cluster, sporty alluminium pedals, Bluetooth connectivity with AUX & a gradient climb assist feature.

      The engine options remain the same – a 1396 CC DICOR engine with a power out put of 69 BHP & 14.29 kgm of healthy torque & a 1193 CC motor that pumps out 64 BHP of power & 10.2kgm of torque.Both the engines have received a modification to comply with the BS4 norms.There is a price increase of about Rs.6000-10000 across the Indigo CS-e series variants. The normal Indigo CS TDI will continue to retail in BS3 cities.

      JLR Engineers To Work On Nano

      Tata Motors will get help from British engineers working in Jaguar and Land Rover. The company has flown down a group of JLR engineers to improve the Nano, which includes detecting the trigger/s for the recent incidents of catching fire. The automaker is conducting a very intense investigation into the incidents by allocating a team of experts, drawn from across the company. The engineers may also help Tata engineers in preparing the Nano Europa, which debuts in Europe next year.By motorbeam

      Tata Nano Goes Into Commercial Production from 2nd June

      Tata Motors is ready with its mother plant for Tata Nano and the company will inaugurate the plant on June 02, 2010, reports CNBC TV. There is no confirmed and official announcement from Tata Motors but the plant is expected to start rolling out world’s cheapest car from 2nd June. The inauguration ceremony will be attended by a few very high profile people like Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Chairman of Tata Motors Ratan Tata himself.

      Currently around 100 to 120 Tata Nano’s are being manufactured on a daily basis and around 3,500 Nano’s are ready to be rolled out on the inauguration day.Tata Motors relocated to Sanand from Singur in West Bengal in October 2008. It has been supplying the small car to the first 100,000 allottees from its Pune and Pantnagar plants. Over 30,000 cars have been delivered and Tata Motors hopes to complete the delivery of the rest by the year-end.by cartradeindia
