How about starting a Distribution of Detailing products...

      Hi Guys,

I am just thinking about starting a distribution of car detailing products, the intention is to make available those hand-picked brands and products in India at a very reasonable cost.

I count on you guys, please let me know your thoughts and support me with your suggestions/advices/comments/wish lists.

The Only Problem Is that most of the courier companies do not ship liquid , so a firm will be limited to that specific region only !!!

If you can take care of this problem , then cost will be another factor as shipping and customs will make the cost go as high as 2-3 folds. So it will not be VFM to distribute things.

Or if you have some "Other" Channel of import , then we may consider

It's a nice initiative if you can make it work. As Notorious expressed, it might become "not so reasonable" by the time they land in your hands.

Have you done some groundwork like feasibility study etc. regarding this? I'm sure fordfan will be able to help you with that.

Thanks Guru for the thoughts. My point is, even if somebody wants to have these in India, needs to pay the shipment and customs duty. So I may take a reasonable margine towards my expense and effort then sell to the customers.

I have done some, and yes he also encouraged me for this. And thanks again for your support.

I considered this a while ago and I had very detailed discussions with the likes of Sanjay from BB Impex and understood the dynamics. Duties are a major roadblock. It is easier to take a franchise for a particular brand for Country wide distribution like Dodo or DG etc.

The clearance can be taken care by a clearing agent and you could discuss with them about the customs duty. The structure normally for electronic items is 25% + 16% (can be refunded for mfg companies under cenvat) + Education cess. If your paper work is clean, there are no issues. No need to worry.

Thanks WOODSNAKE for the update. Even some manufactures also mentioned about the customs issues. I think there are 4 main categories, one will be non-hazardous chemical, then electricals, brushes and pads, and then cloths.
