TVS motors planning to launch Diesel variant in Autorickshaw

Chennai based TVS motor company is planning to launch Diesel variant in their flagship 3 wheeler model TVS King. TVS motors joins the long list of company which are already in the foray in this segment, TVS entered 3 wheeler segment about 3-4 years back which is primarily ruled by Bajaj. Currently, TVS sells King in both Petrol and CNG variant and adding a Diesel variant will spruce up the sales.

Historically, Diesel 3 wheeler are not that great hit in passenger segment, though major of them are used as carriers, for passenger segment people still prefer Petrol or CNG variant. APE is ruling the Diesel 3 wheeler segment followed by Mahindra. TVS is already seeing good marker response for its maiden variant and this move seems to be logical diversification as their 2 wheeler marker share is sinking.

TVS plans to launch in next 2-3 months and as of now there are no details available on the engine specification. TVS investment on this will be low as they already have everything in place just that they need to plonk the Diesel engine and keep NVH at acceptable levels.

NVH are pretty high with Diesel 3 wheeler, hope TVS address this issue. Given the high cost of Petrol, a Diesel 3 wheeler with better package would be a hit.

Yeah.. Diesel ones are so noisy and vibrate a lot. If they address this and the mileage is better, this stands a very good chance in the market. Of Course shaking Bajaj from this market is gonna be very tough.

TVS is hitting Bajaj hard eh. Hope they do a good job engineering this for acceptable NVH.

Having said that, I would so like the industry to move on. Atleast in the name of safety.

I've seen this case with Piaggio 3 wheeler auto's alone. The Tata Ace & Mahindra Maxximo (though not a fair comparison) being a Diesel seems to be much better in terms of Vibration & NVH in Comparison to Piaggio atleast.

Why not. However, will not a Diesel mass up the weight too much?
