      Look for specs of the 520D, not the GT!

      Under powered? When compared to what?

      I've driven 520D and 530D just enough to say that a 520D does a 0-100 in the early 8 sec territory. The "problem" with it is that we wont feel that its fast because it does impressive speeds without any sort of drama.
      Top speed is electronically limited in factory spec cars but you could find custom tuned de-limited cars on youtube which does some crazy speeds.

      Underpowered to what Tadu plans to buy as his next car.

      For the money you spend on a A4 2L TDI or a BMW 520D, they put out similar figures to a remapped Cruze.

      The only Audi and BMW worthy of buying are the A4 3L TDI and 530D if you want to upgrade from a modded Cruze.

      My car is currently doing 0-100 in 8.x secs. And we are already bored of it. How is a 520D that's putting out similar figures not underpowered for a car belonging to the next segment?

      Segments are not defined by 0-100 alone...A remapped Cruze may be fast enough but it's no where safe enough. The safety kit and the super efficient engine alone puts the BMW in a different segment.

      Who said anything about 0-100 alone? I have driven with a few 520Ds which were also driven very well. In spite of the superior RWD, safety kit they couldn't leave me in dust. And remember, Cruze feels scary because they skimped on TC & ESP in India.

      Imagine paying twice the amount just for safety kit, a fancy badge, an engine where you'd be followed by a remapped Cruze driven by Tadu following my 520D

      I'd be pretty embarrassed. A car with a boring engine, while everything else top notch ain't really FTD. Eg: Figo/Fiesta, Lancer.

      The same is the issue with 320D, 520D, A4 2.0 TDI. I was bored to death driving the 320D when I TD'd it recently for Gearheads, the A4 felt no better. The chassis are so much more capable, that these 180bhp, 380Nm engines with all that additional weight you carry makes it no "upgrade" for enthusiasts like me who love driving fast. These engines are for that average Joe who wants to own a BMW/Audi/Mercedes and doesn't care about performance.

      That is why Tadu has his eyes set on a 530D and me on a A4 3.0 TDI for our next upgrades. That would be a true upgrade if you ask me.

      For an average Joe, upgrading to a BMW/Audi maybe worth it. But for enthusiasts like me, only a BMW/Audi with the most powerful engine within my budget will do

      Even by international standards, Cruze, 320D, 520D, A4 2L TDI are all slow. Not sure what this fixation with us Indians is. Abroad hatchbacks come with 150bhp engines.

      PS - What puts the 520D in a segment way above it should actually be is our stupid taxation policy.

      Babbanji Franklin - It's called evolution. We all started driving on Fiats, then graduated to M800, Zen, India, Esteem, Swift, Baleno, Cruze. If you notice the trend, cars have only gotten more powerful, safer. And no amount of power is enough power.

      I've had the fortune of sitting in some 500bhp+ cars. Post that every other car feels slow. Was bored of the Cruze power after a week I got it. After remap, took me another week before I got bored. Same will happen with a A4 too, maybe I'll get bored after 2 weeks
