      required: brakes improvement workflow

i have never been satisfied with the braking performance of my zen [2003 mpfi].
of late i feel it has deteriorated further to the extent that my highway speed has reduced by upto 20 kmph!

      issue is,
brakes feel spongy. on applying brakes, car doesn't seem to shed the speed as expected. eventually brakes do work even wheel lock up but there is no feel to it. situation is bad if car is fully loaded [4-5 people]. comparatively wagonr back home has much better brakes.

      so far,
brake shoes have been changed [few thousand kms earlier]. brake lines have been bled [twice]. still no effect. i want the braking performance at least similar to the wagonr.

what can i do to get it to work sharp and effective!

#mods : could not find any thread specific to brakes. please merge if exists

IIRC, Esteem Type II brakes are a direct fit on the Zen. Atleast that is what most of the drag boys are running.

What was the procedure followed? When you bled the second time, was there air in the brake system?

tadukuttan , i was told there was no problem with it. just to make sure they bled the brakes for the second time [when i complained]. car is due for service now. so before going there i wanted to make sure of the steps to consider for rectifying this.

another thing is that i can hear some kinda light rubbing noise when i apply brakes first couple of times in the morning. afterwards it disappears.

Brake shoes on a 2003 model? You surely mean the rear brakes?

You have a split braking systen, with two circuits working diagonally. If one of them fail, the pedal feels spongy and need more travel for any braking efffect. When the system first was introduced, they were split between the front and rear wheels but around the 80s they were split diagonally.

just an update.. recently got brake pads changed at Bosch service center [Bosch make]. braking seems to have improved and spongy feel has gone down a little when compared to stock pads.
