I've heard some good reviews about continental cross contacts and their performance in mountains and off roads. However, I'm not sure about the availability and price in India.

There are few reference in the tbhp thread (link below) about dealers selling continental in Bangalore.

My Safari has done 60K on Bridgestone HTs and they are still good for another 15K KMs, planning to go for continental ATs for next tyre change.

I guess Captiva AWD employs the same methodology as Tucson. Starts in 4WD and moves on to 2WD for regular roads after 30-40 kmph based on terrain. If the situation demands, it stays in 4WD mode automatically with varying torque split ratios. Also manually switchable 4WD with 50:50 split. No low range.

There is also a pure 2WD version (first gen) as well but now they sell only AWD models AFAIK.

I think, first generation were 2WD ( front wheel drive ) and later it was replaced by 2nd generation AWD.

I know its very late to reply on this post,
My friends Captiva AT had 235/60 R17 ,He had used Hankook DynaPro HT tyre for 45000 KM .Tyres are pretty strong .He has changed to new with same again and now Run @86000 km ,Recently We saw Falken has introduces this size with name ZE 912 at Rs.13500/ per tyre. Tyre rubber seems to hard but not to the extent of AT tyre.
