      Spy Shots:: Porsche 911 GT2

Our spies have just captured the slightly revised Porsche 911 GT2 doing what it does best – storming around a track (the Nürburgring, specifically). The removal of foglamps and a more pronounced chin spoiler set the hardcore 911 apart from its lesser Turbo brethren, and rest assured, the big GT2 wing is still intact.

Official details haven't been released just yet, but we'd expect the GT2 to use the same twin-turbo flat-six as the 911 Turbo S. This means output will be around 530 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, but remember – the GT2 should be significantly lighter than the Turbo. GT2 models ditch all-wheel drive for a rear-drive setup, and the interior is stripped out for even more weight savings. (Hey, Porsche – if those black prototype wheels don't weigh too much, we'll gladly take those, too.)

The GT2 looks like it's in the final stages of testing, so we wouldn't be shocked if the production model showed up at a certain European auto show (*ahem* – Paris) later this year.

New Hardcore Porsche 911 GT2 RS Could get 600HP

Porsche is set to release its most powerful factory-built street car ever, the GT2 RS. Possibly.

So, how powerful is it? The twin-turbocharged GT2's flat six is rumored to be getting output rated in the 600-horsepower range (it could even more than the V10 Carrera GT's 605 horsepower) and is targeting a 7:22 lap time at the 'Ring. Value shoppers, on the other hand, will probably still want to stick with the ZR1.

Exterior differences to keep an eye on are mostly GT3 in nature: center-lock alloys, a hood-forward nose intake, mild front fender flares, a stripped interior with door pulls instead of handles, and a full roll cage.

Performance enhancements would be supplied by adding a fully-adjustable suspension to the corners, carbon-ceramic brakes, a titanium exhaust, and active drive train mounts. All that, and oodles of carbon fiber (including the wing, vents, and any potential add-ons) keep the weight down.

2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS: New Photos Surfaces Online

New Photos of Porsche's hotly anticipated 911 GT2 RS - apparently shot during some sort of official presentation- have made their way on the internet revealing Stuttgart's hardcore sports car in all its glory. The pictures reveal that the baddest ever road-going version of the 911 gets a wider body, spoilers of all sorts, a carbon fiber hood and massive air intakes behind the doors along with a new set of wheels. The interior on the other hand has been stripped out (notice the latches on the doors) and fitted with a pair of bucket seats, which like the rest of the cabin, are trimmed in red Alcantara. It is also reported that the weight saving measures on Porsche's rear-wheel drive 'widow maker' have shaved almost 100kg or about 220 pounds from the kerbweight.

TechArt Aero...Charges New Porsche 911 Turbo

Porsche isn't alone in offering retrofit goodies for its 911 sports car series. Following Stuttgart's announcement on the availability of new accessories for the 911, Porsche tuning specialist TechArt released details on a second aero package for the latest 911 Turbo. The Aerodynamic Kit II is more aggressive than the first stage kit that was unveiled earlier this year. It includes a new front bumper with a lip spoiler and larger air-vents incorporating the firm's multifunctional daytime running light system which combines daytime running lamps, position light, parking light and direction indicators in one LED system unit and a common housing.

The kit also adds more prominent side skirts, a new rear apron with side air-vents and a large rear wing. The company notes that all components of the aero package are made from high-grade materials such as lightweight carbon fiber and hard-wearing polyurethane-RIM. As with the Aerodynamic Kit I, the stage II package can be combined with TechArt's 'TA 097/T1' or 'TA 097/T2' performance upgrades that boost the 911 Turbo's output from the standard model's 500-horsepower to 570HP and 620HP respectively.

Porsche has revealed its most powerful road-going 911 to date: the GT2 RS.To be built in a limited run of just 500, the new rear-wheel-drive road racer is powered by the latest evolution of its twin-turbo 3.6-litre flat six engine, tuned to deliver a Le Mans-grade 620bhp.That’s a whopping 60bhp more than the standard 911 GT2 — now out of production — and 8bhp beyond the German car maker’s previous most powerful road car, the V10-powered Carrera GT.

The so-called Metzger engine — named after the motorsport engineer responsible for its original design — eschews the direct injection of Porsche’s newer 3.8-litre engines for an older, sequential injection system. It also uses the latest Borg Warner turbochargers, producing 1.6bar of pressure instead of the old GT2’s 1.4bar.Drive is fed to lightweight 19in forged alloy rear wheels shod with 335/30-profile tyres through a six-speed manual gearbox from Getrag and a mechanical limited-slip differential backed up by recalibrated stability control.

Carbonfibre is used for the bonnet, rear wing and seats, contributing to a 70kg weight reduction that nudges the GT2 RS down to 1370kg, 70kg less than the three-year-old 911 GT2. That gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 453bhp per tonne.Extra downforce is provided by a 10mm higher rear wing, and an extended front airdam covers the wider front track.Although it’s not the fastest-accelerating 911 of all time, the rear-drive GT2 RS’s performance is still extraordinary.

Porsche claims 0-62mph in 3.5sec (0.2sec faster than the 911 GT2), 0-124mph in 9.8sec and 0-186mph in 28.9sec. With a traditional 3.44:1 final drive, the GT2 RS is geared to hit 205mph at the redline in sixth gear. It won’t be cheap, either. At £164,107, the GT2 RS will cost almost £33k than a regular GT2.

And the best part about the 911GT2 RS is that it can still look like an ordinary Porsche 911 and give quite a few heart attacks to the guys driving the Carrera GT .

Me thinks, only the ZR1 can smoke this car in a straight line in that segment.

The Ferrari 599GTB which is some £27000 more is faster.

Eeerrr, you mean the 599GTB is faster than the ZR1? I don't think so.. Here is why..

And btw, seems Jeremy is getting old .

PS: The Porsche is the ordinary GT2, not the RS and you can see its hardly a car length behind the 599. Surely the RS version should be as fast or faster than the 599GTB.
