      Terrano-nissan's version of the duster?

Nissan is burning midnight oil to launch its rebadged version of the highly successful Duster. According to Autocarindia, it may be named Nissan Terrano. This is not a new name as Nissan used to sell a mid-size SUV by that name from 1993 to 2006.
The 2014 Nissan Terrano as we know it, will not be a mere badge changing exercise. The Nissan’s version will feature significant change in terms of sheet metal design compared to the Renault Duster. However, Nissan attempts to save costs by retaining the interior, of course with the Nissan badge on the steering wheel.
Contradictory to the previous expectations, Autocarindia.com reports that the Nissan Terrano will be costlier than the Renault Duster by Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 70,000. Technically Nissan is borrowing the Duster from Renault and hence needs to pay a hefty royalty for it!
The car will use the same powertrain options as the Duster. The 1.5 litre K9k engine will spearhead the proceedings but given that the Terrano will be positioned above the Duster, we expect only the 110PS version of this engine to be available. The Duster also offers 85PS version of the motor for those who are on a strict budget.
The Nissan Terrano is given priority right now and we won’t be surprised if the company manages to launch the vehicle by this year’s festive season! Considering that Nissan has opted a name that was known internationally, there are chances that we could see the Terrano being exported to overseas markets at a later stage.

This is the official teaser pic. Looks like Nissan has done some homework on this Duster derivative. Since Nissan is expected to price it higher than Duster, I sincerely hope that Nissan will address the biggest drawback of Duster i.e. interior quality.

But going by the cases of Micra-Pulse & Sunny-Scala, that is highly unlikely. So is the prospect of Terrano being a bigger hit than Duster, given the fact that Renault has been able to develop a better brand image in India as compared to Nissan.

Render – Nissan Terrano in its production form is more intimidating than the Duster : IAB

"While it is obvious that Nissan will change the bumpers and the lights, some sheet metal changes are also expected in the Terrano for the sake of individuality. The hood for instance, bears two strong creases which neatly culminate at the grille.

Another interesting change we spotted was in the side of the car. Where the Duster gets a U-shaped crease extending from the front to the rear door, the Terrano could have a straight crease towards the lower half of the car. This was spotted in Nissan’s official sketch and we’ve carried it forward in the render. For this change to appear on the production model, Nissan would have to reskin the doors, an expensive affair, but one that would bode well with strategy to launch a different looking Duster."

Is Nissan going to add any bling to the interiors? Duster's interior leaves a lot to be desired.

Nissan will launch the Terrano SUV in October and we have got the price for you. The Japanese automaker will price the Nissan Terrano starting at Rs. 8.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Terrano will be offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine only and no petrol powered Terrano will be launched. Nissan has seen the poor demand for the petrol Duster and has decided not to bring a petrol powered Terrano. The picture you see above is the official studio shot of the Nissan Terrano, yes it doesn’t resemble the sketch which Nissan released recently.

There is no difference in the bland interiors. When we were thinking that Duster is overpriced, Nissan threw a bomb by even more increasing it...
