Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 - Review

      Hi all,
Just bought a new phone, the Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 so as to jump onto the Android bandwagon.

My last windows phone was, the O2 Atom was screwed up in May 2008 and is as of now unrepairable and had been using the Nokia 1200 since then.

Here's a short review for you all. I am not a pro at writing reviews and am writing whatever is coming to my mind as I type.

      Android 2.1
3.2 Mp camera - no flash
      800 Mhz processor
      GPS
      Wifi
      3g Ready
      Divx Support
      3.5 mm Jack

The previous models of the Spica came with Android 1.5, but mine came with the Android 2.1 (Eclair), Samsung have officiailly announced an upgrade for the old spica's.

The experience is awesome on this fone.
Touch - would rate it 8/10, if the iPhone is 10/10.
Screen - Amazing, find it better than the iPhone.

It has a 800 Mhz processor and the Android 2.1 runs amazingly fast on this one.

If you are not comfortable with the touch you can use the buttons provided.

The surfing experience is good. The sound quality of the earpiece is good but the ringtone speaker is not that loud.

It also has features which the iPhone 4g is going to have,
like pinning contacts to Home screens (forgot to add that it has 3 home screens).

The apps which come already installed are:-

      1.Facebook
      2. Gmail
      3. Gtalk.
      4. Youtube
      5. Myspace
      6. Google Maps

      The drawbacks of the phone
      1.No radio
      2.The buttons are not backlit.
      3.No flash

You can sync your contacts with Google.com using ur account so no need to backup contacts on HDD.

There are a lot of custom roms availale for this phone on the Net.

Will do some modding in the weekend and update you guys.

Forgot to add the most important thing, the cost, I bought it for 12,500 INR and this is the cheapest Android 2.1 phone and it is for a sure value for money.

OK whats all the hype about this Android thing?? Can you explain why its said to be good?

Ive used a few Windows phones before, and never really liked them. Once thing that annoyed me the most was that, they were all pretty slow.

Here are the reasons for the android hype:-
      1.Open source
      2.Google backing
3.Most of the mobile phone manufacturers are in alliance, they have
formed a group called Open Handset Alliance.
      4.Competing with the iPhone OS.

So, basically it's Apple vs Google.

Windows phones are pretty slow because Microsoft sucks, as simple as that, they give you a great GUI but the applications are too heavy.

Now with Android being open source (unlike the iPhone OS), the modding community out there is very happy coz people can mod the OS as per there needs (it's not that simple, coding sucks bigtime).

Also, the point to be noted is that iPhone OS is not open source so you as a developer can only create and add apps, but in the case of Android you can also add functionality to the OS as desired by you or the
      handset manufacturer.

And iPhone OS is available on iPhones only, but most of the handset manufacturters are now onto Android, the Motorola Milestone is one hell of a machine with a 1Ghz processor and so also the Sony series.

Microsoft has come up with Windows mobile 7, but i don't think that is going to be popular.

Also, the customisation features provided in Android are far better than those of iPhone OS and Windows mobile has no customisation features when compared to iPhone OS and Android.

Wow man am impressed with this fone,

all the missing features in the iPhone are in this one...to be specific the Android 2.1

forwarding SMS, setting up gmail is so easy, the Android store is amazing...it runs like a breeze...

would suggest you to jump onto android...
