Cool Ford Ikon 1.3 or 1.6?

      Hey Guys,
Finally i parted with Pal with a heavy heart.

That Italian Old man started showing aging. So decided to move on.

Now i have a Problem in choosing the next car.

The car in my mind is Ford Ikon. But i have to choose the right engine option.

      I need the expert Advice.

      The followings are my needs.

      1. Good Mileage with out compromising the performance.

      2. Low maintenance.

      3. Low spares cost. availability of spares.

      4. Trouble free Ownership for another three four years.

My driving will be mostly Highways. I don't drive regularly but i cover almost 6-7K Kms a year.

my trips will be of minimum 350Kms non stop.

What ever engine option i buy, I'll convert it to LPG that will be light on my pocket in long run.

      I have seen two Cars.

      1 Ikon 1.3 2006 model 50K driven.

      1 ikon 1.6 2004 model 67K driven.

I need your advice urgently. Ikon Owners Please pour in your inputs.
I am not driving fast. I'm Just Flying (s)low.

Spare parts of Ikon are expensive even though availability is not a problem. Ikon is not trouble free either.

Buy a diesel. Availability of fuel and the shear power it unleashes on highways is undoubted. Any diesel hatch will do.

I had my Palio for almost 3 years. When i bought that I faced so many warnings about the maintenance and spare parts.

But In reality I spent almost Zero on owning the car for the entire period. Except 3L of Oil and Rs. 145 for oil on every service.

I believe in If maintenance is good the parts wont fail before its too old.

So i think i can take a little extra care to the Ford if it comes to my stable. I had owned a Ikon 1.3 for close to a year. but it was driven by a driver (Taxi) that time also it didn't gave much of a problem.

Other then the maintenance part. The cost difference in 1.3 & 1.6 parts.

      Dear friend,

My budget is restricted to 1.5 Lakhs. I dont want to go for a hatch again. I already owned one of the Biggest Hatchback cars (Fiat Palio)

For this I would recommend the 1.6. I have the 1.6 and my friend had the 1.3, 1.3 is very sluggish.

For any or all of the above, I would look elsewhere............

Just Give me rough idea about the regular maintenance cost.

Will it cost me More the 5k a year?

I know the Risk of buying a Ford as I my self sold somewhere around 100 ford cars in my earlier career.

I like the Ikon since the beginning. This thred IS not decide about ford or not but to decide 1.3 or 1.6?

1.3 is sluggish as mentioned above but it will do your daily running job & on the other hand 1.6 is full of power and it makes ikon a power packed car.

LPG + 1.6 Ikon doesn't suit buddy. You will loose the charm of 1.6 if you run it on LPG.

Get 1.3 for yourself and look mileage is also on lesser side of that car.

I will suggest you for Mitsubishi Lancer 1.5 petrol, Spare parts are easily available in service center ,most wear and tear parts are available outside authorized shop also. Requires very less engine oil 3.5 lit ,oil filter Rs.100/-.Engine and suspension of car is trouble free, In my five years usage I have not change any spare part apart from tyres, oil filter ,battery ,air filters fuel filter ,spark plug and windscreen viper.
      But as you said

If you don't mind, can you share the offer price? I have a 2007 1.3 which I plan to upgrade in some 6 months and want to gauge the market.

The first part is true, the second is not. In roughly 6 years & 67k Kms of ownership, I have not had any major problem other than a suspension replacement.

Regular service costs me ~10k but of that 4k+ is for the synthetic oil. I'd say budget 10k per year.
