      2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI

      Volkswagen has fleshed out its latest generation Polo lineup with the introduction of a new GTI variant. This latest GTI has the same output as the last hot Pol,o but now produces it on one-quarter less petrol. Each and every one of its 177 horsepower now comes from VW's twin-charged 1.4-liter TSI inline-four with direct injection, a turbocharger and a mechanical supercharger. The combined fuel efficiency goes from 29.8 miles per gallon to 39.9 mpg on the EU test cycle.

      The Polo GTI gets a similar rounded five spoke wheel design to its big brother, the Golf GTI, along with the obligatory red brake calipers and trim on the grille. This is the first Polo to get LED eyeliner running lamps and corner markers along with bi-xenon headlamps. In proper GTI fashion, the seats are covered in a plaid fabric just like the originals of three decades ago. In fact, with the growth of the Golf over six generations, this Polo is actually almost the same size as the original Golf.

      Interestingly, the Polo GTI only comes with the quick shifting seven-speed DSG gearbox and sprints to 62 miles per hour in just 6.9 seconds, and handling will be aided by VW's electronic differential lock, which is said to reduce oversteer.

      The old Golf looked so much hotter than this thing. And even if they get this to India, it'll be priced upwards of 10L and that means hardly anyone would buy it.

      As karthik mentioned if it is priced at 10L then forget it guys. No use in India.

      Eeerrr! I am sorry, but there will be a lot of working youngsters who will line up for this even its priced around 12L in all the major cities. It looks hot, still a hatch (wonderful for city driving), has plenty of mod potential.

      It will be as expensive as a Skoda to maintain. No surprises there. But I would pick this over the RS anyday. Heck, if this launches, this WILL be my next car.

      You think they will lauch this just so that a few people get their hands on it?? Very unlikey. Heck, the RS being a proper sized sedan didn't sell, let alone this one. It will be absolutely great if they lauch it though, but it doesn't seem like its gonna happen.

      When you look at the sales as a whole, the number of people willing to buy this will be VERY small. So it doesn't make sense for VW to bring it in anyway. And 12-15L for a VW hatch!!!??

      Volkswagen Golf GTI Adidas and Excessive

      As usual, Volkswagen has used this year's annual GTI meetup in W├Ârthersee, Austria to unveil new special variants of the sporty Golf. Of the two cars revealed today, the Golf GTI Adidas (above) will go on sale in Europe next month while the GTI Excessive shall remain a concept.

      The Adidas is a three-door GTI that carries the name of the famous German sportswear brand. The only exterior differences are small Adidas badges on the B-pillars and unique 10-spoke alloy wheels. On the inside, the usual GTI plaid upholstery has been supplanted by a black finish with red side bolsters and the Adidas triple stripe down the middle. Cars equipped with the DSG dual-clutch gearbox also get an old-school shift knob with golf ball texturing. pic by autoblog
