      Tata Sumo Grande problem

      Hi,
      I own a Tata Sumo Grande. Recently I had gone to Nainital and while turning the car to enter the guest house we heard a loud noise. After reaching we again turned the steering to left and right keeping the car stationary and again that noise came. I callled the Tata mechanics and they were not able to understand the problem. They asked me to check the steering oil but it was full. So we did not touched the car. While coming down from Nainital we smell something burning. Our driver got down and informed us that it was due to brake shoe getting stuck. I want help from members here that what is the reason of that noise and why is the brake shoe getting stuck. Plz help!!!!!!!!

      Thanks

      Dont know what the sound is, but the brake shoe getting stuck could be because of overheating while coming down the ghats. That is quite common on drum brakes. Or have you done this trip before with no issues?

      If the noise comes on steering the wheel to the extreme left or right, your drive shafts could be busted.

      Or alternatively check your lower arms, steering column ball joints, tie rod ends.

      Brake shoe getting stuck? Are you sure its not a case of the brakes being worked too hard and heating up?

      From my experiences, What i feel is;

      1. Check the brakes for its ply and whether its getting any kind of stuck?
      2. If its a hydralic power steering, Check the oil level and its components
      3. Check the wheel bearings.

      Hope this may help u more.

      Thanks for your suggestions. As far as wheel bearings are concerned I have checked them, they are not faulty.

      Thanks

      Hi, Their in Nainital I lifted my car by the jack. I spinned both of the front wheels one by one but their was no noise proving that the bearings were alright. I dont know what to do. I would like to know is Grande MKII better in thse matters. If any ia an owner of Grande MKII then please help. How it is better than Grande and what are the improvements. If it is better then I can exchange the vehicle with Grande MKII. Also has anyone faced similar problems in their Grande or Scorpio.

      Thanks
