My baby Baleno Lxi White (Used) Ownership review

      Car: Maruti Suzuki Baleno Lxi
      Engine: 4-Cylinder 1.6L 16v
      Purchased on: 3rd January 2013 (03/01/13)
Purchase Price: Rs 1,90,000 (i know, BAD)
Odometer Reading When bought : 94,000 Kms
      Current Odo Reading:

      Okay...Now the story.

Ill be honest, i did not buy this with my hard earned cash. My dad bought it for me, and im very thankfull to him for this. Since he knew i loved cars alot, he had saved / kept aside a bit of cash for a small used efficient car for me. He said " i give you this-this amount, you do the searching" and the smile i had on my face. The smile went on for weeks because i had seen this Black Baleno Vxi at the local True Value Used car showroom. A couple of scratches here and there and a dead LHS Rear Power Window. The car was parked behind many other cars and it was around 5:30 - 6:00 so he kindly asked me to come the next day for a Test drive and a quote. Came the next day and he realised the Battery was dead. i called my dad about this and told him (he was confused on whether the baleno would be suitable as a daily) he said, for now chuck the baleno out of the list, hesitantly i said okay no problem..

Few more weeks of searching, a hyundai getz 1.1?! , Swift Vxi Red?!! , Chevy U-VA was a good buy! unfortunately i was too late, SOLD. Also i would'nt mind a Zen, but could'nt find any decent one. So i gave up the hunt for a while and Searched online.

"What goes around, Comes back around"

Saw quite a few Balenos, Mostly Taxis and then i stumbled upon a Baleno Lxi in White, this time it wasnt a Taxi!!!!!! . I called up the owner and asked about the condition, the last price and where its located.

The car was located in Taleigao, a few Kms away from my place. Drove to the place and there she was, well painted and ...had a spoiler...oh a fake one lol. Never mind, asked him for a test drive and my oh my i loved the way it took off in 1st (never driven a baleno before), everything seemed fine, i was happy and so was dad (after some convincing), He was offering it without the ICE, but i asked him what system it was. It had a Kicker 12" 450w Sub, Pioneer TS-A934H Oval Speakers, Soundstream Amp and a Defective Kenwood HU, But since i insisted him to keep it (obviously i we had to pay for it), he then replaced with Pioneer FH-P6050UB Head Unit. BTW He installs ICE and does Electrical work.

So gave him a token and asked him to keep it ready . 2 days later we paid him the entire amount and took it. Dad left for home in his car and i kept distance ...so i could drive my baby a little.

      Heres how she looked:

Gave her a nice wash and admired her as my parents sat in it, comfy as hell.

In between all these processes came the Registration and transfer process at the RTO

Few days / weeks of driving like a total maniac made me realise how thirsty it was, but then if i was carefull with the throttle she just sipped a little bit. Im sure i got atleast 16kmpl odd out of it.
Then came a problem... a month and a half later the Lower arms decided to give away. Sliiiightkhat khat sound on bumps, but prettty much drivable. No worries there. Bought new Lower Arms around 2 months later and got them fitted at local MASS (This is when the drive shaft problem happened/got worse).
      The list does'nt end there...
The right side front Strut mounting wasnt mended properly,i mean aesthetically (car is smooth). Plus due to the rain, the paint on it started chipping off. Sadly i did not have time for that and left it that way

Few more problems, Squeeky Interiors, not rattly (can live with that), Spoiler looked very fake (removed it), Right side front door not mended well. And my stupidty left a scrape mark on the front and a dent on the rear a bit next to the taillamp, saved the taillampsss.

      Heres how it looked:

Cost is 2.5k to get it fixed, dent removal and painting the whole Qpanel.

Then came the Drive shafts, Both made the tak tak sound in all gears, When i gave it for Lower Arms replacement, i had asked them to check the Drive shafts. He said it was worn badly. Since parts take daaays to arrive, a friend there got 2 other Shafts to check if they would work (he did not charge me for the shafts nor the labour). Went for a test that day and realised the RHS Drive shaft is slipping (left hand turn had no drive, making the engine rattle like crazy). He kindly asked me to keep the car somewhere closeby and safe and order the parts (kept the car at my uncles place). i.e: Both Drive Shafts and Intermediate Shaft. I opted for a local spare parts shop, "Auto Factory" ordered the parts. Total was 11,700/-. 3-4 days till the parts arrive.

Once the parts arrived, i dumped them into the car and gave the car to MASS next morning. Parts Replaced, Labour charges: 1405/-.
He adviced me to replace Gearbox Bearings. So that will be next.

This car is very fast, beautiful and if you know how to maintain it, its Big VFM. Im sure once i get everything fixed she will work better. Love the way the car handles. Hoping to make it as fast as mclaren1885 's Baleno

Currently getting around 16kmpl on the highway and around 10-11 in the city with traffic. I will list out the parts replaced and the cost later on.
Will keep you guys updated on this Click image for larger version.

Update: Just remebered about the Driver side ORVM being hit by an i10 which got too close. Its an electric ORVM, Thankfully its only the mirror that popped out of the holders.

My left side Headlamp bulb was'nt working, unfortunately i did not have extra 130/100W bulbs. so i removed both and put 60/55W bulbs (which i have stocked inside somewhere).
The left bulb looked like this:

Once again she leaves me stranded. The release bearing decided to part ways. Was driving down to the city today, and the car started vibrating when i accelerated, slipping the clutch. Drove to some nearby safe spot and left her there.
Can anyone give shed some light on this? What could it be? Its really urgent. Tagging mclaren1885

Update: from thread Vibration while accelerating - Baleno

A month ago the car started vibrating when i floored it.
Hence: The car has been at mass awaiting parts for gearox repair. And finally got her back. The gears shift really well, no odd sounds from the gearbox as of now. Bearings were replaced. Parts came to around 3500 and labour was 4k. Not sure but will post exact cost for it later. Suprisingly the shell gear oil was included in this lol.

In another 5k kms the Clutch set is going to be replaced along with other minor things from time to time. Um. Could anyone tell me wat a pilot bearing is?

Thats it. Really happy to have her back. Some input from 007 made me go in for SGP parts.

Just when i was enjoying the gear shifting another sound arrived, theres always something wrong with the car. Just hoping its not the lower arms again. Its coming only on the right hand side and it sounds very plasticky. MASS is gonna have it from me if its some loose bolt or something. I remember them delivering someones wagonR after servicing with the rear wheels untightened, just hanging by a thread. Please pray for me.

Its a needle bearing thats pressed in the crankshaft that the output shaft of the gearbox goes into. This because the rotation speeds of the crankshaft and output shaft have different speeds at gear changes.
