Cochin to Bangalore : Fastest Route by Bike

      Hi guys,
I will be traveling this week from Cochin to Bangalore by bike with a bit of luggage on a Yamaha R15 and have a few questions:
Whats the fastest way there? Is it safe to go by bike? Distance?
      Recommended stops for food?
      Costs involved (leaving out petrol)?
Anyone traveling that route this week i can follow behind?
      Precautions and Tips etc ?
I intend on driving as hard as possible and want minimum stops for rest and food.
      Thanks.

Get into a bus and head to Bangalore.. Easiest and safest way to go without any tension. It's quite difficult to cover that distance in one day..you may have to break your journey somewhere which will add to your expenses.. But den the biker within you will say no no..bike is the way to go .. I used to do Bangalore -Calicut on a bike often.. The fastest way to bangalore would be via Palakkad-Coimbatore-Salem-Krishnagiri-Hosur-Bangalore i guess. There are other routes too but i dunno of them..But don think it s that easy driving flat out on a bike for long distances.I will boring and very tiresome if you are travelling alone. And also for your bad luck if the weather is against you it will slow you down all the more.. So wear proper gear to protect yourself from the weather. Drink lots of fluids cause the heat will drain you.. The riding position of the R15 is not meant for touring and i strongly advise you against doing this..A friend of mine did Cochin-Bangalore on an R15 and it took him 2 days to reach and 2 days to recover from the trip

Given the time of year and having done two trips to Cochin side recently, I would say the heat will burn you down. Your best bet would be to travel at evening/night, but I am not too sure that is safe on our highways?

This would be the shorter route?

Well im doing this trip to get my bike to bangalore, am shifting there for good so cant do it by bus.
Heard bad things about sending a bike like this in a train or bus so decided to drive there.

I guess ill be taking the route rainer gave as it seems more frequented and easier to follow.
Taking two days to reach is way too long, im hoping to be done in fourteen hours without any long stops.
Planning on leaving early in the morning and reaching by night.

Oh!! Den ur best option is riding it to Bangalore.. But doing it in 14 hrs is goin to be a tough proposition.. You cant cover such disatnces on a bike that easily.. It's easier said than done.. I am saying this from my own experience.
And another piece of sincere advice. Carry as little luggage as possible or you are goin to be on the bed for a few days with a back pain..

Sometimes i wish i had a bullet. Im carrying 8kgs of luggage but lying in bed with back pain is safer than being on a highway with buses and trucks .Will i have to pay any tolls on the way and if so how much?
Also rainer if possible can you give me details of the route please, names of more places if possible.

I think the bikes are exempted from the tolls.. I rarely take this route, but its more or less one straight route and there will be sign boards to guide you..If you want more details on this route it s better you ask any of the Cochin boys. They ll be able to guide you better than me.
Err if i were you i would send that 8 kg luggage by parcel..

You can easily do the ride in 1 day on the Salem route suggested by all. I have left Bangalore at 5 pm and reached Trivandrum at 9 am the next day morning (driving through the night non-stop) riding a 100 cc bike 21 years ago in narrow roads of that time, that too taking the difficult Kanakapura-Chamarajnagar route. And on the return journey, I even carried a household mixie (Sumeet make!!!) slung to the bike's saree guard. So don't be daunted and go for it. You can do the journey in under 12 hours if you are determined.

frequent Butt Breaks will be needed riding a bike like R15(wr.to sporty seating position).and that will eat time.
BTW ,Are you going to travel during night?

      Stick to the National HIghway - NH47 - Palghat-Cbe-Salem-Bangy.

Rahul - the route you recommend will add conservatively another four hours to the driving time(ghat sections galore). Not to mention that road is generally shot to pieces, and mostly very less traveled.

You can easily hold high cruising speeds once you get onto the expressway about 10 kms out of Tiruppur.

You can easily do it ! I have done Hyderabad - Bangalore .. twice ... on a 1967 Bajaj 150 scooter! (in 1988/89)
