Engaging the ABS for the first time ever

Last weekend I had gone to Chennai. This trip gifted another small scratch to the car thanks to a friend's carelessness. While starting the return trip I had a gut feeling telling me to go slow. So I was maintaining a sedate 80 - 90 in the 6 lane roads. My co-passengers asked me why I was going so slow on a super empty fantastic 6 lane road. I didn't have an explanation.

It was this spot: Google Maps

One old Esteem was going in the right most lane slowly and I was in the middle lane. An Innova had overtook me on the right side followed by a Punto who was even faster. The Punto was literally on the tail of the Innova. Out of some gut feeling I removed my leg from the accelerator pedal and put it on the brake giving it slight progressive pressure. Now both the Innova and Punto wanted to overtake the Esteem. Naturally the Innova guy without looking at the mirror took the left lane. Punto guy thought he was faster to take the lane. But he was not so. So it was the Esteem in the right lane, Innova between the right and middle lane and the Punto in the middle lane. Out of panic the Esteem and Innova braked. Punto couldn't react so fast. He braked hard but his mirror hit the Innova's. I was behind the Punto but I could feel the brake bite by then. I pressed the brake pedal as hard as I could. It started pulsating and a sound similar to a load of stones falling on asbestos was heard. I knew ABS was kicking in. The bags and in the rear seat was thrown off. The co passenger in the front seat and the back seat had their seat belts on. The belt safely stopped them. The car stopped without any drama. Steer left, right and I was gone. No drama. No skidding. No tyre marks. Thank you ABS and Figo. After about 5 KM I stopped and had some water.

This happened when I was doing about 80 - 90. I don't know what would have happened if I was faster.

Lesson: Always and I mean always maintain a safe distance between the car ahead and make sure every passenger wears the seat belt.

I believe this is a separate incident other than the one you shared here.

Ya that is a separate one. I was climbing up the ramp and my friend who was holding the gate closed it a bit in a blank mind. Now all four sides of the car have a scratch

Just got a call from Cauvery Ford. Seems like my car is in the list of cars to be inspected for the Rear Torsion Beam. If found defective, they will replace it. I have fixed an appointment for Saturday. Morning their driver would come and pick up the car. I am thinking of asking them to check if there are PCM updates too that need to be done. What say #Figo guys?

I may go to Metro Ford, St. Marks Road on Saturday to replace hand brake assembly & for a Quick Service.

If you are happy with the current performance, stick with the current map. You can ask them to upgrade to the latest version also. If you are doing that, make sure you are informed about the version.

What happened to the hand brake assembly? Also isn't this service before the recommended period?

I shall ask them. If there is indeed a new version and they are willing to update, then let them. I shall give it a try.

There is rust formation. Replacing it under warranty.

Car had done 50K+ Kms now. Engine oil was changed at 46K+ Kms from Metro Ford & then at 47K+ from #Bay6 .
As per Metro Ford record, I should go for a Service/engine oil change at 56K+ Kms but planning to go now to Tighten & Torque parts which was not done during last oil change at 46K+ Kms.
Also, looks like belts have to replaced as it is making too much noise.

Would you elaborate a bit more, what kind of noise we are talking about here. Noise can be head all the times or under peculiar conditions only?

Will try to capture & post a video here. At cold start idling I can easily make out the noise even though low. After running for few Kms & idling, I can make out that the noise have gone high.
