      Tata Safari or Mahindra Scorpio

Hi, One of my cousins is wanting to purchase an SUV. His budget is not much so he has shortlisted Scorpio LX Mhawk and Safari LX Dicor. Now he is confused between these two. Could you please tell me which car has better seat comfort, better ride and handling, better view from driver's seat, better VFM and which one has better build quality both inside and outside etc so that I can transfer the information to him. Hoping for an early reply to this topic.

      Thanks

      Scorpio:
      - Poorer seating, but a great improvement over earlier versions
+ Handling is good, but depends on your tyres, braking is far better
      + VFM - cheaper outlay
      + Better build quality
      + Great car to drive

      Safari:
      + Great seating and comfort
      - Tata problems
+ Great car to be chauffered around in

I am sure hrag will have a lot to say.

Both there suvs are good. As far as ride quality is concerned, i would surely rate safari above scorpio. But i feel the drive of scorpio much more exciting than the latter. Also the A.S.S of tata is really terrible as compared to Mahindra. So i would suggest you to go for scorpio but if you do have any multibrand car service centre near your place then going for Safari wont be a bad idea,

      Cheers,

Scorpio is the answer,if he wants a suv ,safari it is if he wants a lorry

Mhawk is faster, more agile, much better built ,front seats and rear bucket seats are good, ride is almost as good ,better resale value ,can take more abuse .

Thanks fir the replies. He test drove both the cars and found better road view from Scorpio. Which has better interiors and quality. He found Safari too bulky and as said the problems with Tata vehicles. Please tell is Scorpio better than Safari keeping only in mind the base model. Which has more features. Please help.

      Thanks

      All things said and done,

i do have a safari LX ( current vehicle ) and i miss the rear roof A/C vents which is available from the EX version onwards.
apparently i do not think there is much difference in cost between LX and EX version provided you are not looking for a 4x4 version.

but seating comfort is a BIG + in the safari, since i have also travelled in the scorpio all the way to Tirupur and 1 hr into the drive i already had a slight back ache mainly due to the upright seating position.
+ for some unknown reason the scorpio was seriously unstable as i could feel the car sway a lot on turns or while overtaking (probably the driver did not know how to control the bulk of the vehicle)

Never had this trouble with the safari, though pickup tends to be a problem with downshifting everytime you need to overtake someone and the brakes suck. once the safari picks up its difficult to get it to stop from high speeds and downshifting helps a lot.

You need to check with your cousin whether he plans to use this for in-city drive with occasion long journeys or is it completely for highway use.

ask him to TD the vehicles again and this time take the cars for a run on the highway for a couple of kms.

In city both the vehicles are Massive and need their space in terms of parking and traffic snarls.
please ensure you suggest a reverse parking guide on any vehicle he buys.

Thanks to everyone and specially to Godfather who gave a detailed review of both the cars. The car is meant mainly for cities and once or twice for highway in a year. Many people say that scorpio is a compact vehicle so it is easy to drive. Is it true?

      Thanks

Dude scorpio can screw safari in most of the aspects except space. Please drive that lorry called safari to know its true colours,it sucks bigtime ,this is coming from an owner of more than 6 safaris and tata quality sucks ,i have more than a dozen tata vehicles and can even give you the detailed ownership reports of those and why they were preffered.
