      Hyundai Service cost - atrocious

      Guys

I bought a used I10 1.1 Magna last year and I am really happy with the performance of the car. But the Hyundai service costs are outright atrocious. When I gave the car for service (first time after buying the car), I got a bill for Rs. 4952/-. The best part is the material cost was just Rs. 1300/-, the cost of Shell Helix oil, filters and all the other charges are labour. I was naïve during the first service ordering wheel balancing & alignment from the dealership. After joining Gearheads, I got a little wiser and this time refused all the frills and asked them to do the regular things only. I was patting myself on the back and Hyundai just moved a gear higher dropped a bill for Rs. 7523/- with a labour bill for Rs. 3806/-. I had no choice, but to foot the bill, want to just put the labour charges on the forum to get your views,

      Periodic maintenance service 1210
      Both front brake O/H 545
      Both rear brake O/H 480
      Fuel injector cleaning 375
      Throttle body cleaning 150
      consumable charges 350
      cowl top cleaned 350
      Diagnostic tool operation 115

      Total 3575

Other than these Rs. 231 was charged as labour for replacing the front suspension insulator strut which cost me Rs. 1566/-

So If I drive in to a Hyundai service centre without any major problems for a paid service, the approximate amount could be around Rs. 5,000/-. Does servicing a Hatchback costs this much and My friend who owns a Honda City pays much less than this during his service. The height of insensitiveness is charging the consumables as Rs. 350/- When I asked them what it is for?, they said Emery sheet, clothes and cleaning oil. So what does that PMS of Rs. 1210 cover?, Changing oils...

I love the luxury of Hyundai cars, but their service costs is highly prohibitive and I cant afford it in this rate. So my next car is not a Hyundai for sure.

      Sorry for the rant Guys....

      Regards
      Subbaraman

PS: I have consciously avoided naming the service centre as they have charged just the recommended rates by Hyundai.

I too own a hyundai santro xing. Of late my car's service bill amounts to around 5K. I agree with you on this. I give the car for service every 6 months. In ur case replacing the front suspension insulator strut cost you Rs. 1566/-. If you subtract this from the total bill amount, it still comes to around 6k. Pretty high.
I think we have to compare the bill amount of santro with that of jazz or brio. I hope there is not much difference between servicing a sedan and hatchback. Correct me if i am wrong.

Hyundai parts are a bit on the expensive side.

We work on a lot of Santros at Bay6. And the approx service costs are as follows:

      1. Oil Filter - 76.
      2. Air filter - 190.
      3. Fuel Filter - 215.
      4. Engine Oil - 295x4
      5. Spark plugs - 584.
      6. Periodic Maintenance Service Labour - 1050.
      7. Throttle body cleaning - 250.

5 is replaced every 10k kms.

If car has missing issues, injector cleaner is another 240.

Most of the parts are from Bosch. Customers who want Hyundai parts only usually end up shelling out 300-400 more than the Bosch parts.

Except the brake labour, the rest seems kinda reasonable. I usually charge 450 for pad installation + bleeding of brakes which isn't done at A.S.S.

Any work related to clutch, suspension and engine will always be expensive. It involves a lot of manual work. And takes half a day to just remove + fit.

i10 service is around 300-500 more expensive than a Santro. Specially in case of the Kappa engines. Which get air filters and spark plugs only from Hyundai and no other good aftermarket vendor.

What is the service interval for this one? Is this the 30K Km service or what? Secondly, they give an estimate before starting to work on the car. Was it not provided.

The service interval is almost a year and the vehicle had clocked 40 K when I bought it. The car was immediately serviced after that and had no problems as it was in immaculate condition. My use was within the city only, Hence my total running for the year was around 3500 kms. Yes, the estimate was provided and it was originally Rs.5500 and then revised to Rs. 7500. My shock is in seeing the labour bills which I thought was very high. May be I have to live with it for a couple of years.

Its higher nowadays. You can buy genuine Hyundai parts from the HMP service center and do it on your own.
As @meclaren1885 said, the parts are cheaper. Only the labour bill is high.

I do have i10 1.2 kappa2 and last week I bought oil filter(72.00), airfilter(170.00) spark plugs(550.00) and changed on my own. Let me know if you need any help.

It is actually the labour charges that are killing these days. Typically these days I have observed that labour charges in ASS is close to 30% to 40% of your overall bill ... So as to avoid high labour charges I go to ASS only in alternate servicing to make sure that all is good ofcouse after my cas goes out of warranty.
