      Ritz Brake noises

      Hi,

I was hoping someone could tell me if this is a real problem or not on my 2013 Ritz lxi: whenever I use the brakes at more than 10 KMPH, there is no noise and everything is smooth. But when I apply brakes at less than 10 KMPH, there is a low whistling noise that I can hear. It is continuous and not very loud, but enough to attract the attention of motorcyclists riding really close to my headlamps near speed breakers. Any idea what that sound might be? Should I get my brakes checked? Is it due to winter temperatures? I don't recall hearing the sound in the summer.

Could be some Dirt/Dust stuck between Pads and Rotor Disk.

      Drive carefully. It's not only
cars that can be recalled by
      their maker.

When was the brake pads last changed? if long enough then better to get it checked as in new vehicles there is a sensor which identifies the brakepad wear and gives a small wistle sound when there is no meat left on brake pads.

is your situation like this. The car is parked outside for 3-4 days at a stretch and then when you start the vehicle and gradually move and apply brakes , you get the noise. If so it could be dust accumulation b/w disc and calliper pad.

There is only one cure for grey hair. It was invented by a Frenchman. It is called the Guillotine - PGW

I think this system has to be very similar to what was on old cars (like our Indica), where a metal piece grinds against the Disk Rotors once the Pads are worn out below a minimum level. This produces a Squealing sound..

Thanks for all the replies and pointing me in the right direction. The car has run 2500 kms and it does stays parked for 3-4 days at a time, so I was leaning more towards what sedate and suresh_gs suggested. Anyways, early this morning[at 5:30 AM], while washing the car, I sprayed the brakes with lots of water using a hose pipe on the wheels and tyres. Later in the day [around 11 :00 am], I took the car out for a spin and surprisingly : no noise!!!, Thanks for all the responses.
