      TATA Zest (Falcon 5)

      The Tata Zest will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2014 after its formal unveiling on February 3rd in New Delhi along with the Tata Bolt, its hatchback sibling.

      Like the Tata Bolt, which is a re-designed Vista, the Tata Zest is a heavily face-lifted and sub-4 metre saloon version of the Manza.

      The Tata Bolt and Tata Zest which share the same ‘X1’ platform are likely to be similar upto the rear doors. Both cars are likely to share the same power train which includes the 1.2 turbo-petrol ‘Revotron and the Fiat-sourced 1.3 Quadrajet diesel.

      The big surprise however is an all-new Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) for the Zest, which will be mated to the 1.2 ‘Revotron’ engine. Tata Motors plans to launch the Tata Zest with an AMT option which will be available from the start of sales.

      The Tata Zest is likely to be launched a few months before the Tata Bolt and should be available in the showrooms in the first half of 2014.

      The Tata Zest was unveiled in an event in New Delhi today, just a few minutes ago. The Zest is basically a re-skinned Manza, with an overall length of 3,995 mm. Thus, the Zest will qualify for the Indian small car excise benefits, and will be Tata’s second sub-4 meter sedan (the Indigo eCS being the first).

      This 5-speed gearbox will be paired to the 1.3-liter four-cylinder Quadrajet diesel engine, which outputs 90 PS @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm in the Zest. As a result, the Zest will be the first car in its segment to offer: a. An automatic gearbox for the diesel variant
      b. An automated manual transmission

      The Zest will compete with the likes of the Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and the Grand i10 based Sedan (which will be unveiled tomorrow).
      The petrol variant of the Zest will derive its power from the new 1.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Revotron motor. This engine will produce 85 PS @ 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm on the Zest.

      Disappointment :
      Same old Indica platform is being dragged to it's limits. Its a Vista sedan or can be called a re-skinned Manza. This car may create some buzz initially but then it will die sooner or later. I don't understand one thing, Tata is taking so much time to bring these modified vehicles? This 'Zest' is just announced, god knows when it will be launched?

      What Tata, looks like you have now fully prepared yourself to receive Tata from Indian buyers forever?

      well one thing i like si the AUTOMATIC transmission on the diesel model .

      the cheapest AUTOMATIC diesel on the market is the HYUNDAI verna costing 12.45lakhs approx .

      so if TATA does plonk an auto box with the MJD engine then it will be the cheapest AUTO box diesel !!!

      cant comment on the reliability , performance , or quality of the AUTO box . but still 1st in the segment !!!

      Thats true, but think if Tata would have worked on some new era platform and would have brought a completely new car with all these interesting technical bits. Then it would have turned out into a long race horse for them and there were chances that they could have started regaining their market which shrinking faster like anything.

      Looks are good in exterior.Climate controls looks too old.

      I guess they will have this and Manza side by side for sales.

      Lets see how it is received by the customers.

      TATA will have first mover advantage for cheapest diesel AT. But people will be wary about the reliability of their AT since this being their first.
      I like the dash and the MID looks like rapid / polo

      Much better in looks compared to Bolt ! Good move by TATA. Lets see how far they would fare in the passenger market. Automatic would be a good value add in below 10L category for Diesel.
