Snapdeal to sell bullet proof-kits for Scorpio

From caps to bullet-proof kits, online players are cashing in on the election fever by launching poll related products. Leading online marketplace Snapdeal.com has tied-up with Mahindra Group’s Defence Land Systems for the latter’s Scorpio vehicles. Under the arrangement, Snapdeal will for the first time sell bullet proof kits that will protect Scorpio vehicles from any untoward security challenge keeping in mind the election season.
The brand known for its cutting edge defence solutions has been fortifying the country’s defence capabilities since 1947 through its offer of mobility and survivability solutions.
Tony Navin, Vice President, Business Development at Snapdeal, commented on the alliance, “Defence Land Systems India has been proving their expertise in the line of defence armoury for a significant time now. This is the first time Indian customers will be able to access such a product in the online space. While the brand itself is a guarantee of product quality and cost effectiveness, we are pleased to be able to offer their range of bullet proof kits to buyers online who are looking at a credible source for such requirements and are often in doubt about the right buying platform for the same.”
Sukhvindar Hayer, Senior General Manager, Defence Land Systems India, stated that, “We have world class design, development and manufacturing technologies and introduced products which provide a number of value for money protection-in-transit solutions. We are the largest private sector supplier of light armoured vehicles to the Indian Security Forces. Keeping in view the ever increasing security issues, while we continue to improve the survivability solutions for our gallant soldiers and policemen, our offer through Snapdeal is to provide the relevant NIJ Level 2 (protection levels against 9 mm bullets) kits for protection-in-transit solutions to the citizens of the country.

Only the driver side in the VVIP version has power windows . so i believe the others variants wont have windows that can be rolled down manually, god forbid the AC dies.

Also there was no mention of the caliber of bullets that can be stopped and at what range. The floor bullet proffing says it could withstand a grenade blast. and the tires can run flat ( albeit with bullet punctures) a grenade will tear the whole tyre apart.

While it is good that the private market is offering all these options for security crazed people. the actual Sustainability of the product under such an attack has to be proved by demos/live videos. Else its just hogwash.

Is it whole vehicle price or kit price? I am confused because the premium kit is listed @75K. If 75K is real price then its really a very good pricing for a vehicle of that size. I used to think bullet proofing costs lot of money.

the 75 K is only booking price. without the vehicle. Vehicle either you will have to provide or can buy new.

Are bulletproof vests and helmets included? There is something wrong when politicians start looking like soldiers....

So the person buying this has to pray that his assaliants are armed with 9mil and weaker rounds. Or, maybe have a sticker "9mm or bust!"

This is just ludicrous. Is this accessible for just about anyone? I presume if they end up selling body armor and helmets online, the whole city will look like a counter-strike or Call of Duty map(knife round, anyone?). With assault rifles and sub machine guns becoming a lot common these days, its as good as nothing if they end up being attacked by assault rifles(be it 5.45x39, 7.62x39 or 5.56x39 or 45. I, for one, think it is high time the nation gives body armor to soldiers instead of the comedians running the show.
Sometimes, It is better to count our blessings than think about what we didn't get.

Law abiding citizens don't have the right to own arms in India. Antiquated British era laws govern gun ownership in India. But criminals and terrorists have easy access to weapons. Won't be surprised if we start seeing local goons and political lackeys driving around in these.
