      ICE'ing my Ford Figo EXi.

      Hi,

My 1st day and 1st post on Gearheads.
I can just read and admire some the work & builds in this forums. Also the help & suggestion many like me have been getting from the experienced ones with such details is just wow.
Thanks in advance for all the help.

Well, I want to move away from my stock system in my Figo EXi and go aftermarket. I am thinking of going with a full component system.
My first priority is long lasting and great SQ. I can adjust my budget accordingly or wait till I get what is suitable.
I can try to source components from abroad (good availability, low cost) later incase I need an upgrade.

My requirements to start off are:

      1. Good quality, durable, feature rich and well known products.
      2. SQ is my priority but I can't invest a whole lot to achive a 5/5. My current target w'd be 3/5.
      3. Fuller & Punchier bass but I need to cover ground on all, High, Mids & Lows. So better than decent speakers and sub. I can improvise on these later on a need basis through upgrades.
      4. Good long lasting aftermarket wiring & cables.
      5. Powerful and durable AMPs and circuitry for long lasting. I don't expect to upgrade these if I don't have to.
      6. HU, well not sure if I can fit a 2-DIN in Figo but if I can get a really good, feature rich set like BT, USB, DVD, MirrorLink, HDD support etc. so be it. I don't expect to upgrade these for a long time either.

I am not sure about other requirements for the setup. I expect the Gurus can fill in

My starting budget will be 60K-70k to which I can add later if I need to add a component at a later stage.
Also, I am from Bangalore. So any suggestion of a good place to source these (if not online) and a honest and skilled technician for fitment will be of great help.

Looking forward to all the experienced help and suggestions.

      Thanks,
      Abhi

Abhi, so what your looking for is:

      1. Front components.
      2. 4 ch amp.
      3. Subwoofer.
      4. Head Unit.

I own a company that deals with some very niche products from world famous brands like Rainbow, Dynaudio, Micro Precision, Mosconi, Digital Designs etc.

      This is what I'd suggest:

      1. Pioneer Double DIN 4650 - 20k.
      2. Rainbow DL 6.2 Pro components. These are a limited edition set with Profi Tweeters. Cost 23990.
      3. Rainbow I-Paul 4.300 4ch amp - 32990.
      4. Rainbow DL12 Subwoofer - 11990.
      5. Wiring - 5-8k.

Since you are in Bangalore I can have the installation done for you as well.

All prices are MRP except the HU. You'll be getting a Gearheads discount as well. And most of the ICE guys on this forum will vouch for the brands I've mentioned.

If you don't want to spend this much, then we could always get you slightly cheaper stuff. I have suggested this configuration keeping in mind that you don't have to sell it and plan to retain it for a while. So makes sense to invest in good stuff in the beginning itself.

There is an install happening in a Terrano with the same stuff I've quoted above this Thursday. So if you want an audition, please feel free to drop by

Avoid Pioneer AVH Head Unit if you are planning an SQ system. The sound quality is not good. EQ is worst!
Kenwood, Sony(newer models) and JVC have good and neutral sounding AV Head units.

If you have a budget of 60-70K for now. Why not go fo a 80PRS or JVC equivalent of 80PRS ( cant't remember the model no). bamaboy can you fill in.

There are dashkits available in the market where you can fit a single din in a double din space.

This alone makes the set a bang for the buck

Rahul uncle are you sure this is the same tweeter as in your set ?

I have the set that I got for the Terrano with me. On the back of the tweeter it's clearly written Profi. Here is the pic I clicked just for you now.

Looks the same to me and to think I paid thrice the price of this set a year ago for my Profi/Vanadium components. Even the link below will tell you the same.

      Rainbow Audio USA

Currently this set has to be the most VFM set available in the market today only thanks to the tweeters that are 3 models higher to the midbass and XO. For those who aren't aware of the CAL26 tweeters here are some interesting threads

SQ is a highly subjective matter and differs from person to person. I started last September with a simple 2-way passive system using Focal components, a subwoofer, a 4-channel amplifier and the 80PRS head unit. I also got a professional enough installation done first up.
Though the setup was quite good, to my taste I really wanted the soudstge higher and wider. I immediately realised the only way to go about it is to get the midrange frequencies on the dash.
The choice is either to remain passive or go active.
If active you would need minimum of 7-channels of amplification.

I suggest you start passive with a high power 2-channel amp to power the 3-way components and a monoblock to power the subwoofer.
The most critical gadget is the Head Unit and this is where the real SQ starts. If you bungle and compromise here, everything else that follows would be a waste of money. So maximise the portion of your budget with a good SQ HU.
Of the HU's that I have heard the Clarion HX-D2 is simply the best followed by the other active head units.
Invest your money in the following order over the period of time if it is not immediately flexible
      1. Head Unit,
      2. Speakers, cables, installation
      3. Amplifiers

Good SQ is where all the individual drivers dissapear and blend together. itsvel06 runs a fully 4-way active system starting from his HU which is a Clarion HX-D2. He was initially running with 3-way Morel drivers upfront and was one of the best SQ systems that I had heard. However, for some reason he decided to go for a wideband driver and relaced themorel midrange with it. Sadly though, individually, the wideband driver was a brilliant performer, it just did not blend with his other two drivers. He was hence forced to change the midbass as well and he has now changed the tweeters also including the subwoofer.

So always remember that brand and hype are not the only factors, it is how well the drivers are able to blend at the crossover points that decide on reproduction of the original music. I would highly recommend you to stay with the same brand for drivers and also to stay within the same model of the brand. The drivers you select should be able to perform both in passive and in the future in active mode as well.
My stong suggesstion again would be start straightaway with 3-way components.

Sorry for the long post, Happy listening.
