      Roofliner for Skoda Octavia

The rooflining cloth on my 1st gen octavia has started getting detached and is hanging now. The skoda service guys say it cannot be pasted back and needs to be replaced. But they do not have stock and asked me to check back after a month.

I checked with an after market car upholstery guy in my town and he is also telling skodas have a special material and only that can be used. He seems to be having 5 octavias in waiting list with same problem.

#Bangalore , #Cochin , Anyone knows a place where I can source the roofliner apart from ASS?

Can you paste a pic of the condition of the roof liner? I dont think its a big issue.

Usually the roof liner will be stiff material made foam with cloth or carpet lining. If the foam has the shape and only the cloth is sagging, remove the cloth lining and glue it to the foam. If the foam is broken and has the original shape, you can reinforce it with a high density foam, check with the wholesale or dealers that stocks upholstery items. Also if it has lost its shape at some or small area, repair it with metal paste to give the original shape. Cover it with a soft cloth liner (light coloured plain velvet is a good option) or soft rexin. All the above is not an impossible task to do by yourself.

I had the same issue with the vrs.

YOu need to go to a local sofa repairer/car seat cover maker. He will take out the roof lining and paste new lining.

Expense, as per your haggling limits, ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 bucks, plus 4-6 hours of your time.

Board is pretty hard to get these days. The local guy will peel off the old lining, clean the board and stick new material to that board with fevicol sr.

Very difficult to source roof lining material. I've been trying for my Cruze for a while now as I wanted to cover my A-pillar pods in the same material.

Try someone who stitches leather/fabric seat covers. Those are the only guys who will be able to source it for you! Or else you would have to import it.

Only the cloth is sagging in my case. I will probably check with another upholstery guy and ask him to paste a matching cloth like deepfusion has done.

In may case, it was a light grey shade, as against the almst blackish grey that came as oem.

The fellow just took out the lining, peeled off and cleaned the glue remnants, gave it a clean with spirit that is used by auto paint shops (didnot tell me the name for that), applied fevicol SR and glued the lining.Click image for larger version.

ID:	182557 Sorry. Could not find the photographs yesterday, so uploading them today.

The result was that the roof lining's colour, after the change, matched the floor colour, but the sun roof's colour remained oem, as is visible in the attached pic.
It never looked bad or out of place though.

So, with complete confidence youo can go to the seat makers locally, find the colour, if possible and get it done.

Did you find a solution for your roof liner problem? There is a place in Kolencherry which does the roof liners and even VW showroom use their service. The place is called car boutique i had the number but lost it.

Sorry that I didn't update the thread. I got the roofliner replaced from the very same place at Kolenchery. Also changed the door trims and seat covers too thanks to the cat.
