Just for the record. Rpm in the diesel 1.6 stays like this at cold start (no difference if AC is on or off) and after driven. No spike.

Technically on cold starts RPM will spike. In some cases it maybe too negligible for the needle to show. But if you connect an OBD reader you'll clearly see the difference.

Nothing to worry about it. It's normal and it's meant to function that way.

Flashback 2 weeks : Last pressure cleaning was done outside post which I had clayed and polished the car. (phone in coma, so yet to retrieve pics from it)

Washed the car myself again last weekend with the purpose of continuing the detailing which i left off last time. This time I wanted to try the poorboy's black hole and some C845 if my arms survived the former.

Arms didnt survive and a backache ensured no waxing this weekend.

Post washing. 2BM(DC mitt, ONR). The black gloss never ceases to surprise me. Last action was Meguiars UP with an orange pad 2 weeks ago.

Apologies, long time no update. Too much work and didn't get the time to upload pics or put in any updates here.

The car is running fine as of now. Fuel efficiency within the city seems to be around 13-14kmpl by MID reading.
No new accessory fittings. Most free time is spent cleaning the car and minor detailing.

Apologies for the quality of the pics. The HDR mode on my 5mp mobile camera makes the pictures appear a bit weird sometimes.

      ---------------------------

Took a trip to Bhubaneswar from Kolkata in between. First time the scraped the bottom and that too really hard. The part which bore the scratches was sticking out so saved the cables to the left.

Fuel efficiency was around 15-16kmpl on the highway drive to bhubaneswar.

Renewed the insurance for the 2nd year. Continued with Bajaj Allianz. The original insurance was issued by my dealer and as per the quotes this time, they turned out to be the best combination of annual premium and high IDV. Rs 17810.

      ---------------------------

Went in for 2nd servicing on 1st Feb as per the booking made a week ago. Very few cars had turned up on that cold morning so the mechanics and the SA were not in a hurry to quickly get rid of the customers.
Found a better SA this time. Sometimes(quite rarely, but it was present and disturbing) I used to get a small thud noise from the front suspension while driving over speed breakers or small obstacles. Tightening all available nuts/bolts under the front wheels got that fixed.
Got the under-body anti rust coating done. It’s a 3m with a 5year warranty. There are 10 free tokens for 5 years to renew any damaged or chipped off coating. There were cheaper options available locally, but I am too lazy to go hunting for that around the city. Also, local option wouldn't have that 5 year warranty.

A heat resistance paint on the exhaust and 3m anti-rust coating on the rest of the areas.

So this was in Jul'2014. And the service center guys brushed it aside.

From what I understand, the article implies and Hyundai admits that this noise is inherent in all Vernas.

      Source

Currently this thud sound doesnt occur often and seems the sound level has diminished but its not altogether gone. The person who test drove after the servicing said this is normal and happens in all Vernas.

      Questions :
      1. Did everyone overlook this noise in their cars or missed posting the same here. Either this is normal for all cars or I am too paranoid about NVH.
      2. In the 2nd line of the paragraph, what does it mean by etching on the suspension components ? Can it be replicated for the previous models ?

Nope in those 10 months I drove with the stock suspension I have never experienced this thud.

Once during my trip a bump on the Coimbatore-Avinashi road almost set me airborne for I was cruising at about 120kmph. The sound was deafening. But the suspension took all of it. No problems whatsoever after that.

The rear OE suspension thuds occasionally but that was only during those times I drive around with 2 or more hefty adults seated in the rear. It's a quite distinct thud... you know what I mean.

I once went on an extremely bad road - with 4 adults(needed to go to a temple which had absolute no road, dad's request) - the ride was bumpy(of course!) but no abnormal sounds. Was not going beyond 20-25 KPH.

Nopes sir, when I Google, there are people who have similar complaint. Just ask the service guys to sit with you and go for a short drive. Check with them if the sound is normal or not!! That will give u a big peace of mind.

I bet it's on one of the flyovers near Avinashi. Even I missed seeing the bump one night. Car went airborne and on landing, my DD monoblock fell off.
