      Ciaz hybrid (start-stop)!?

It is said that maruthi suzuki will be selling hybrid ciaz around 10 lacs , prius was costly and did not sell well. But maruthi's price seems normal for a sedan. So if you are to buy a sedan and that too a ciaz will you opt for a hybrid ciaz.

This will give serious competition to Honda City. Indians love mileage and at good mileage this will take the wind out of other sedans. Plus, it theoretically should be very good in stop start (bumper to bumper) traffic with twin benefits, braking converted to boost and boost used during the 1st gear which is most taxing for the engines. Engine should run with lower loads during the initial pickup and during heavy accelerator input at the time of sudden acceleration. But that's the theory part, how much it will translate in actual usage is still to be seen.

Overall, IMHO I see many other manufacturers implementing this in near future.

It seems the maximum subsidy for a car is 1,38,000 rupees, So i think ciaz can be sold cheap even without FAME. Most Solar companies misuse the subsidy given for houses to maximise their profit .Likewise i think ms is using the hybrid tech to get the subsidy. Also the subsidy brings the car price below 10 lacs giving another benefit of lesser tax.

The FAME scheme is for 2 years and 780crs.

So what's hybrid about the Ciaz. As per Maruti, the below points:

      1. IDLE STOP AND START: Self Explanatory
      2. TORQUE ASSIST FUNCTION: As per Maruti this helps the torque generated... Not sure how? I doubt it does anything to the torque.
      3. BRAKE ENERGY REGENERATION: This is hybrid tech that charges batteries in an Electric Car. Here it recharges the battery that gets recharged by the alternator anyways. So not sure how its an hybrid?
      4. GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR: That's nothing to do with Hybrid Tech.

So really there is nothing Hybrid about the Ciaz Hybrid. So don't think it will affect it. I am thinking the Government guys are smart about this.

Hybrids really need to work on multiple fuel/power options. The only fuel running the CIAZ is petrol/Diesel - with Hybrid or without.

Brake energy regeneration is done in EVs as well as hybrids. In a parallel hybrid such as the Prius, the drive motor works as a generator to store the braking energy into the batteries. In mild hybrids such as Ciaz, the Integrated Starter Generator - termed so because it's a motor and a generator- does the same job. While coasting and braking, the momentum of the flywheel is used to drive the ISG and charge the batteries. During start-stop, the ISG works as a motor to provide additional torque - consider it as a parallel power source for the flywheel, in addition to the 1.3L engine.

Agree, but does that make the CIAZ a Hybrid?

Also the torque generated by that motor is good enough? Do we have any actual numbers to look at?

      But this might go OT.

This thread is about the budget.
