      I noticed the following today:

      1. Black soot-type oily deposit around the entire fuel filler cap area.
      2. Black soot-type oily deposit in the entire boot area.

I don't get off the car while getting it refueled but keep a tab on the same while being seated inside. Also I have absolutely zero use of my car's boot. Hence the sudden observations.

PS: I feel like I am talking to myself in this forum. Possibly my last post here.

anand_h whats he mileage you are getting on the car, last time you mentioned 14 and its very low considering my amaze diesel gives between 18-20 with ac in city conditions.

Boot area, inside or outside? Outside its from the exhaust, inside would be a concern.

The Black soot-type oily deposit around the entire fuel filler cap area will be the dust accumulated inside thefiller cap + fuel and trickled down through the gap of the fuel cap
The Black soot-type oily deposit in the entire boot area may be from the exhaust if its around the exhaust area. As your mileage is low,i assume you do a lot of quick accelerations and thus this is causing.

      Thank you for your replies!

I am still getting between 12 and 14 kmpl. The driving is through a lot of traffic with the AC switched on at all times. I will highlight this issue with the service station during my 50k service.

Let me clarify the soot-type deposit a bit more:

      1. The deposit around the entire fuel filler cap area looks like somebody has used a paint gun and sprayed black paint inside the entire fuel filler cap area. So I doubt its because of dust + fuel trickling down, since the entire area has a uniform coat of this black soot.

      2. The deposit is INSIDE the entire boot area. Even if I enjoy quick accelerations, how can the inside of the boot be covered with this oily deposit?

I am going to take out time from my busy lifestyle and get my car's engine oil replaced every 10,000 kms. And I will only use fully synthetic engine oil.
I realized that I haven't been regular with it due to my high running.

My biggest blunder was when I got my car serviced and the engine oil replaced at 9,000 kms. Thereafter I didn't get it replaced until it touched 31,000 kms. That is 22,000 kms without an oil change. And the worst part is that Maruti A.S.S. had used mineral oil, costing me INR 780 for 3.1 litres. That would have seriously damaged my car's engine

My car is at around 44,000 kms. I will get the oil replaced with semi-synthetic engine oil next Saturday on 25th June 2016. And will go for a complete service when the car touches 50,000 kms.

Thereafter I will be religious with the servicing and oil changes every 10,000 kms.

Maybe this was the reason for the soot build up.

And maybe also for the low mileage

      That's hardly offensive

Yes, it's extremely basic. In fact I find all Maruti cars to have extremely basic interiors. Have never been a Maruti fan. This is the second Maruti in my family after the 800, which we sold more than 20 years back.

I bought this car for high usage. All I wanted was a reliable diesel with power steering and air conditioner.

When I wanna enjoy my car, I take out my Honda City Vtec which I bought last year in April

I was physically present during the oil change. Surprisingly it hadn't solidified. However it was as black as black could be.

Thinking of getting the engine flushed before I get the oil replaced next weekend. What do you think? I have heard horror stories of engine flushes gone wrong :/
