Odd and Even numbered vehicles to be allowed on alternate days

      Hello Members
      Just saw this news breaking
Under fire over rising pollution in Delhi and the lack of a concrete plan to tackle it, the Arvind Kejriwal government has announced that private vehicles with odd and even registration numbers will be allowed on the roads of the national capital only on alternate days starting next month.

This means that from January 1, 2016, if vehicles with number plates ending with an odd number can be driven one day, only those ending with an even number can be brought out the next day. This will not apply to public vehicles.
I mean What the hell is wrong is government policies ? .First the sub 4m rule and then engine size smaller lower taxes ,then ground clearance one .Who designs such stupid policies .This will increase vehicles owned as people will keep two cars and secondly what about road trips will they also have to take two cars out ?Share your views members

Hope they allow only even numbered car on odd numbered day and vice versa. That is probably a more sure shot way of preventing pollution.

EDIT: oops, I just realized that people of delhi has elected this government brutal majority, so probably that is what they want. we non delhi people have no say in how governance should happen in Delhi.

Now everyone should buy two cars to commute. Why our people dont come up with better ideas like more tolerance for electric cars. Make pollution certificate mandatory with proper checks. Provide cycle users dedicated lanes etc..

Yeah even I was thinking who designs these stupid policies.
Ban on everything and then they say we are a free country.
I agree this will only force buyers to buy two cars.

Well, while I don't quite agree with the odd/even formula since it would be near to impossible to implement for the traffic police, I do believe that our Govts should take DRASTIC measures to curb the pollution and traffic problems in the big cities before it's too late. While the effort to curb the problems are a promising step in the right direction, an easy, well planned and thought out scheme should be implemented that would be easy for the traffic police to implement as well.

What happens if on a day only odd vehicles are supposed to run, I need to take my car out for an emergency (let's say to take a family member to hospital?). Will the cops stop and harass me? Waste time that could be crucial to get someone to a hospital? These are the biggest worrying factors since a lot of it is left to the interpretation of the cops and will definitely lead to a spring in bribes and corruption again.

Instead, I'd prefer a Congestion Charge in sectors that experience peak traffic during peak hours. Something like what London has in place.

Something like this needs to be implemented very soon in cities like Bangalore, or else this city is going to come to a grinding halt, with a huge hit on productivity and making living here impossible.

I prefer making the cars more costlier. Something like Vietnam. A motorbike/scooter is much better in controlling pollution. Also, anything above 150cc should be penalised.. So much so that even fuel inefficient motorcycles are not spared.
Imagine if there would be no car, how fast you can reach your destination.

India needs electric cars and better faster economical public transport.
People need to understand car is not status but mode of transport from Point A to B. And fat around belly is not cool. So learn to WALK, and take public transport.
Delhi - Is big time messed up and similar is case for Blr, and Mumbai.

Also, penalise car manufacturers to make damn cheap cars and to offer free loans. You increase car loans interest and you will see reduction in buying of vehicles.
Put a date for Electric cars to be manufactured by car industry that should be adopted as alternative technology.

What about safety and old people & children?
Without proper planning, infrastructure development and public transport system in place, all these gimmicks won't work.

Do cars cost a bomb in developed nations? No right? Still they have found ways to deal with the situation. Instead of reducing cars, why don't we concentrating on reducing population? We seem to be multiplying at a speed faster than light. Why not penalise people who have more than one kid?

It is an absolute stupid, impractical decision. A smart Delhite would probably carry two number plates

buddy not sure which nations you mean...denmark, sweden who pledged to have better environment has 220% tax for cars. in singapore you need lc to even apply for a car and that also 200% above price.
in UK you need to pay arm for insurance not to mention parking, n price of cars.

ah i get your logic...less children n not les cars..people make less shit will stop pollution...keep it up!
