      Dazed and confused.

The Swift has been with me for 3yrs and 60k kms.
It has been good, but now the time has come to say bye bye.

There is a bewildering array of choices now. And its killing me.
I can spend upto 10.5 and may be more if i wait a little longer.
But for me, cheaper the car, the better it is.

Things I'm not willing to compromise on.
      1. Has to be diesel.
      2. Has to be fast in a straight line
      3. Should be fun to drive
      4. Should be cheap to maintain

      Looks straight forward doesnt it?
No! It isnt. And its destroying whats left of my sanity.

      I like the following cars.
      i20 crdi
      Ford figo
      Vento 1.6 diesel
      Safari dicor 2.2 4WD

The Vento- I have not TDed it.
But the specs look good on paper. Dad is all for it, and has promised to help me out with extra cash. He knows what cheapskate I am and cannot stand the thought of me driving a hatch just because the EMIs will be easier.
      Against the Vento-
      1.cost of 10.5
      2.Bulk
3.City driving will be similar to the swift because of the driving position. Not something i enjoyed
      4. Having to take money from dad.

Figo- I love this car to bits.
Easy on the pocket, seriously fun to drive.
Against- Runs out of breath above 120kmph

      i20- Fast. Fast. Fast
      Reasonably cheap to run.
Possibly the Safest hatch to crash in right now.
Against- Not as fun as the figo
Sticker shock of 7.5 for the asta
Buying this hatch means, i'll be stuck with it for a long time.
Even with a fun car like the swift, i got bored at 3yrs.

      Safari-
The new Dicor ad is killing me.
      I've always wanted one.
      I can afford the 4WD.
Against- it'll be a pain in the city.
It's not as fun in corners as a hatch.
Mileage compared to the other 3 cars is low. So it cannot be my only car. I drive atleast 60kms a day.

If i buy the i20 or the vento, that's it. I'll be done.
I will have to hold on to them forever.

If i pick up the figo now, i should be able to pick up a
      Safari sometime next year.
Doesnt that seem like a more sensible option?

Or, i could buy the safari now and use dad's verna and the wagon r for city runs.
Pick up the figo next year.

I'm totally confused and feel like shishir.

Wow that came out of nowhere .

Hmmm if you ask me i would say go in for a safari only if you are ready to not have so much fun in the corners . For the way you have gone about the swift and for the pure fun part of it i would say go in for the i20 if it is the hatch or the vento if you want a boot .

I want to know; are you going to be modding it

      I'm confused alright.
Just got off the phone with tata.
The cheapest 4wd which is the EX BS3 without ABS costs 11.xx
Which is a bit of a stretch.
Buying a 2WD is completely pointless.
So safari 4WD will have to wait.

I'm not prepared to have a safari as my only daily driver.
So the actual cost of a safari is much higher than the on road 11.xx

shyam- if its the vento- it will stay stock. I cant afford to mess with the warranty on a car that expensive.
If its the figo or the i20, they will be violated in every possible way

      Slightly misread the title

Figo now. You say you dont really want to go above 120 kmph anyway.
Give Tata one more year to learn how to build Safari's properly.

For off-roading get a cheap Jeep. Why do you want a Safari?

Why do I have to tell you this, Ripper? you know it already!

      Cheap jeeps are not vfm.
They are just costly toys that break down all the time. I'm not sure I want that.

go in for the i20 i have driven a remapped one with bilstien suspension mods . That car feels faster than mine does. Heard from the guy it puts out 120bhp. Just imagine with a bigger turbo what it can do

OK, but are you sure that YOU want to do the off road antics in a Safari? How often can you offroad in a year anyway? Is that worth buying a Safari 4WD?

As I said, get the Figo. Safari 2WD for highway/long journeys.

Or overcome your sticker shock and get the i20.

Does Peter support the Figo and i20?

Where did he get the remap?
Maybe i should get the i20. When i get bored a few years later, i'll start messing with it.

But the figo is cheaper and so much more involving to drive.

      Time to pester Peter.
