Which is the fastest and efficient route for BLR-Pallakad-BLR for a day trip ?

I need to be in Pallakad for an hour or two long meeting. Which is the best route to travel from BLR and return the same day ?

      (1) BLR-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Salem-Coimbatore-Pallakad : about 420 KMS
      (2) BLR-Kanakapura Road - Kollegal - Chamarajnagar - Satyamangalam - Combatore - Pallakad : About 380 KMS.
      (3) BLR-Mysore Road-Maddur-Kollegal-Chamarajnagar-Satyamangalam-Coimbatore-Pallakad : About 380 KMS

I think option 1 is better. any suggestions ?

      thanks,

Route 1 will be the quickest.

Route 2 is super fun to drive, if you are not tired and love some night driving. Specially the Sathy-Chamrajnagar section.

Not advisable. Absolutely nothing on the road at night should something go wrong + predators abound! Its a much nicer drive during the day though - very scenic. (you may take an hour or two extra going this route depending on road conditions)

I've drove all these 3 routes many times. The fastest and safest route is via Salem. As Mclaren pointed out, there is nothing to see around though.

yes, sight seeing is not the objective. will plan an early start say 3:30 AM and return by mid night. may be for return journey select a different route than the one taken for onward journey.

Is there any forest entry restrictions in Satyamangalam route ?

None that I know of. However I will recommend that unless you can reach Mysore before dusk, dont try this route. If you are intent on doing this, then I recommend you stick to the route via Nanjangud and Mysore. At least you will have some activity. Its not without reason that Veerappan choose to camp here!

The Veerappan days are long gone now. We've done this section around 4-5 times in the last 1.5yrs. All at night, on 3 occasions we passed the check post way past midnight. Except the one time some of us spotted elephants at the base of the ghat section, there seems to be no wildlife activity either.

I remember we started from Ooty around 11pm that night. Were back home around 4:45am I think. This is after several stops and waiting for the slower cars to catch up. And in between we had to stop thrice because my gf was throwing up from all the G forces

Sujit, there are plenty of truckers to help should something go wrong. I've done this section with her alone on a few occasions as well now without a worry. I wouldn't take this route during the day time due to the insane truck traffic.

Nomad: Route 1 is the easiest and fastest as others pointed out. There is a L&T bypass road that you can take to bypass Coimbatore quickly.

The route via Sathyamangalam is good to drive. Only problem is, if there is break down of any heavy vehicle in the ghats then it takes ages to clear up the traffic. Last month when a friend took this route, there was a lorry break down it took 4 hours to cross the ghats! So if you take this route, keep this in mind.
