      Hyundai Elantra CRDI RPM limiting

      Hi, all,

I have a 2006 Elantra CRDI, it's been serving the family for way too long now. We got an Octavia in 2014 and since then Elantra is not running much, still it's ready to go anywhere if required. I keep the mechanicals in good condition.

Lately I have been facing an issue only when I go for long drives, in the highways when I go above 140, after a while RMP getting limited to 2700. No matter what I do, it wont go beyond that. So if I stop and switch off the vehicle for 10 mins or so, everything back to normal, again if I am gaining high speed, RPM controlled again. If I keep the car in 120 ish, it will run all day long without any problem.

When the RPM get limited, the performance is sluggish too, no error code shown, temperature is at optimum level.... Elantra has two radiator fans, both running, no leaks, nothing out of the ordinary other than RPM stuck.

      What could be the reason?

My notorious Octavia started giving trouble in it's 4th year, because of extended warranty I am managing, planning to sell it before extended warranty gets over, since Octavia having some issues, started using Elantra again as daily drive.

And yeah, it has done 4 lakh kilometers recently, without any major issues so far (TOUCH WOOD). At times I wonder, there's only so much a car can do, it ran so much, maybe I will just live with these issues.

Any suggestions and advice are welcome.

Basically, your ECU is going into "limp home mode" there by limiting the revs to 2700 RPM.

It's because the ECU is seeing some error code. Take the car to Hyundai and have them run a scan. They should be able to figure what the issue is based on the scan and find an appropriate solution.
