      Consumer Opinion: Affordable Luxury Cars - Is this the way forward ?

      Recently i met a businessman from TN, who had just bought a new Innova in lowest trim. The vehicle was not having a stereo system even. I asked him why he bought such a base version. He said, he is planning to send the vehicle for customization to Mumbai.

      I asked him what all he is going to customize. He said, entire interior !!!. I asked him for specifics....
      I remember him mentioning the following. ...

      * Wooden Finish
      * Foldable TV Screen + entertainment system
      * Office on the move
      * 4 seater (instead of 7)
      * Lighting: Headlights
      * etc etc

      I asked him how much all this would cost ?, He said budget is approx. 5L and it would take approx 1 month.

      Base Version @ 17.5L + 5L for customization + 0.5L for taking the vehicle to Mumbai and bring it back to Tamilnadu, total 23L.

      I felt this is a smart formulae for differentiated luxury vehicle. What do you think ?

      What are the positives and negatives of this approach ?

      At this price he could have bought top end crysta with 7 airbags and esp.. He could have bought a used/new tempo traveller and do changes to suit his needs.. For short distances he can use a car and for long journeys he can use tempo..

      Positive is he gets space and features in a normal size vehicle instead of a tempo.
