I'll take that as a compliment Nomad

So I got an opportunity to listen to Mission MX6 towers and boy they are big. Great sound stage but barely any connect with the audience. I felt the towers we're trying hard to push. And it wasn't because of amp. I also found them to be aesthetically unappealing for all the big size they had. When I touched the box I felt all the heavy lifting was done by top two drivers, and the below two barely contributed.

Ah, I was never going to buy them anyway.

Has anyone listened to Pioneer FS52? Apparently they are a class leading speakers designed by Andrew Jones. I hope they are worth all the hype.

No Personal experience but heard good reviews about those drivers. Do any dealers have Monitor Audio there ? Try them as well. Bronze or Silver series especially.

Ques : Does using step-down transformer with US models impacts the performance / life or sound quality from the AVR?

If the step down transformer is of proper wattage, it should not impact the sound quality.

Once (10+ years ago) my BIL had brought Onkyo AVR + Onkyo speakers from USA. We wanted to test how it sounds. We did not have access to proper step down transformer, and in hurry we used a small step down transformer that we had. So stupid for 2 Electrical Engineers not to thought it over. It resulted in busted AVR. He took it back to USA, and returned it to the shop from where he had bought it. The shop tested and found that one relay had gone bad (and refunded full amount). So we could not really hear it play and sound in India.

Apart from voltage, i am not too sure how 50Hz vs 60 Hz impact the sound quality. You might want to check that.

My colleague had got a soundbar from USA, and it is working fine with no un-necessary noises. So 50Hz/60Hz might not matter, i think.

Go overboard over the total wattage of the connected equipment and you will be fine. But there is always that accidental risk of wrongly plugging into the wall socket.
Just ensure that never happens, especially when you are not around.

rksingh1, when you try arithmetic to calculate total wattage of the system and then go overboard (x2) and then try to buy the power supply or transformer of that wattage, most probably it's size might be bigger than the rest of the system combined. So do it wisely.

      Thanks Nomad.

Yamaha RX-V683BL has power supply consumption of 400W at 120v 60hz power supply.

Denon AVR-X2400H has power consumption of 500W at 120v 60hz supply.

      Would this work?

      Its 750W.

You can expect a number like 75-80% as available power from the quoted power figure of 750 watts. That will be 550w to 600 watts, too close to the required wattage. And if the avr unit has some power factor, then it would go further down. So better get 900-1000 watt transformer.

Obviously, I didn't buy anything from US. Step down transformer and its headache isn't worth it.

In the meantime, more auditioning got done. This time with my wife. Went to a Sony center. I had to listen to Sony HTiBs before passing any comments on them.

The N9200W, top of the line HTiB from Sony is what we listened to in Yelahanka Sony World. It was very disappointing. The stereo separation, placement of speakers and overall setting was terrible. If anyone buys N9200W after that audition, the person must be buying it for brand and not quality. Let me not even talk about the subwoofer. Demo guy played an Avengers scene in max volume. He needs to understand that loudness is not quality. (Oh, BTW, it costs atrocious 58k)

Went to ProFX MG road again. Listened to KEF Q350, Polk S20, S50, S55 and RTI A5 (last three are towers)

S55 blew my wife away. She liked KEF Q350 too, but I felt the AMP wasn't able to drive them effectively. But all in all, nothing stood in front of S55. My wife is one of those old school music listener who still felt that the Sony hif-fi system that her dad bought 20yrs back which she used to play in loud volume and let her neighbors burn in jealousy is the best music one can ever have. I was happy that myth broke after listening to Polk S55.

We had intentions to buy S55s if not for arrogant pricing from ProFX. The person was great in letting us audition various speakers, but his last quote on S55 was 50k. For X1500H, he said 57k. Amazon already has lower prices for both. S55 is available at many places for 44-45k. I was hoping for them quote me the similar number and if they had, I'd have bought it then and there. Anyway.

Buying an AVR + S55 is not so easy. Since these are not essentials, I am taking my own time reviewing various options and figuring out what I need.

I am sure on front speakers, I am still not sure on AVR. There are interesting options available in GST and colored market.

      1. Yamaha 585 is my current # 1 choice. Available on Amazon for 44.5k. Local showrooms have same price, which you can negotiate till 43k. One gentleman from Madurai quoted me least at 41k. Other rates are around 42500 to 42800 round about. With GST and Bill, this is by far the best 7.2 option.

      2. Marant NR1608 - available at Hifimart for 50k. Good options for 7.2 channel with bill and warrant. Its 50wpc is somewhat a concern.

      3. Denon X1500h - singapore models are available for as low as 34k in Chennai. Very good option if I can drive to Chennai. Of course I'll have to bear the cost of repair, if anything happens.

      4. Pioneer LX303 / Denon 2500 - If I can go to Chennai and look at Singapore options, then I can explore 2500 for 45k and 303 for 48k as well. But I doubt I'll take a plunge on these.

Right now, I am thinking either to save money and get X1500 for 34k or spend 9k extra and get Yamaha 585 for 43k.

Polk S55 for 44k are final. Yet to buy them though.

Listen ... Listen ... Listen ... preferably with the Polk S55 you have finalized.

Buy only when all elements of the experience get finalized.
